Yesss! Been waiting for this all day!

D DuB

Jinora getting her arrows made me 😭😭😭

Brooke

I can't believe I just happened to check if it was up early and It was ahhhh! im so excited

newairnation

As someone who doesn't normally cry when I watch movies/shows, I was on the verge of bawling my eyes out during Jinora's ceremony at the end.

Grace Lee

OMGGGG I've been checking to see for a new reaction since 9 because i know you post around 9-3am ish. I'm so happy this is out already! I'm excited to see what you think of the season finale because I know you'll have a lot to say already

hays collins

Ok hear me out. I AM CONVINCED that Gazan is still alive. I mean he’s an earth bender he could’ve easily dug a hole before being crushed. A head cannon of mine is he regathers the red lotus like 15 years later and korra and team avatar has to fight them again but now with Gazan as the leader

Franchesca Giglio

YAY jinora but poor korra ...seeing her like that is so sad.

D DuB

With regards to your question about season 1, the United Republic Council disbanded itself and Raiko (a non bender) was elected president by a non-bending majority. So it seems that while they saw what Amon did was wrong, they realized that non benders felt left out, disenfranchised, and gave them some much needed representation.

agoodwintv
>>46090622

That's right. Cool I'm glad that that happened in all 3 seasons. I wonder how intentional that was.

hays collins

Ugh the scene with Jinora gettin her tattoos breaks your soul into pieces. On one side you have the happiness of Jinora getting her tattoos and the other the utter hopelessness of korra realizing she doesn’t have a place in the world at the moment and the only job she loves was just taken away from her

Andrew

I think to your point abt Amon, in book 2 the council was reformed and rather than have councilors from the nations, they began free elections to better represent everyone rather than people who represent nations. Idk how much that counts as a change, but Raiko is a nonbender. 🤣

E_lincoln

Two things I noticed in this episode, one Korra was flying with fire bending instead of air bending since air was so difficult and fire came easily. Also Korra's water bending was just projectiles and no octopus techniques like aang Katara, and Ming wa use. In pro Bending techniques like hosing (I assume grappling too because I don't remember ever seeing it) and that really shows that her formative bending training was really in the pro Bending arena. Neither of these are that important to anything but I like that the animators thought it through enough to do this.

Dennis Wolf

The only bad thing about this season is to little Varrick, well lucky we have a season 4. This season is on par with book 3 of ATLA.

malikparah

That final scene is so bittersweet for me. Seeing Jinora get her tattoos (and looking so much like Aang in the process) and the birth of the air nomads is beautiful but poor Korra who has been mentally and physically beaten down further than we've ever seen her before watching the air nomads go out and fulfil the role that she's been dreaming of since she was a toddler always makes me tear up. Also in terms of the change Amon brought in s1 i can only think of the abolition of the unelected bender-only council and shift to democracy with president reiko but it wasn't given as big narrative weight as the changes in other seasons

Emma Root

Awesome video! I'm excited for season 4! Season 3 is really strong in terms of a season of television for the reasons you mentioned, but season 4 is my favorite because it touches on themes and ideas that really resonate with me personally and also has some of my favorite episodes!

hays collins

I think you are gonna love book 4 as well. It finishes Korras arch in such a beautiful way and I just love it! Not as thrilling as book 3 but Charecter wise it’s probably one of the best...in my opinion

cody gordon

I think you should do a quick reaction vid of the season 4 trailer personally

for the season 1 finale persecutions, it's basically having the first president who's also a non bender. But as you know because of production, season 1 was only thought as a standalone season so it feels the most closed off part of the show. Also it's funny to think that the event Zaheer is most thankful for, the harmonic convergence for giving him airbending and freedom is the same event that took away his freedom with giving the other people airbending and him loosing because of all these new airbenders. What comes around, goes around. It gave him freedom but took it back. He was all about freedom as well which is another hilarious part of it being the reason that he is taken down. As for the very last image of this season, it will be very important for the next season. Won't say more. I also love how Korra is basically looking at the huge legacy of Aang in Jinora because Jinora looks so much like Aang when she gets her tatoos.

Aidan Pullen

This episode is so great. I absolutely love the final battle. There's something about it, even more so than the season 2 battle, that makes it feel like two gods just duking it out. They're flying around, throwing mountains, throwing each other into mountains etc. It's just so powerful and awesome to watch. That combined with the smaller fights with Ming-Hua and Ghazan just made it so great. My favorite part has to be that it isn't even Korra that defeats Zaheer, but all the Airbenders, lead by Jinora. Jinora's ascension to Airbending Master is so special and heartwarming to me. We've seen her growth all throughout these three seasons, and she's gone through so much. Often times "side" characters are left out in favor of the main squad, but the showrunners did an amazing job giving Jinora development, and reasons to love her character. Seeing the Air Nation back for good, and the anointing of a new master is also something incredibly special for Tenzin; it's the one thing he's wanted his whole life, and now he has it after all that struggle. Absolutely beautiful and satisfying. Don't worry, it's not like she's permanently bald or anything, just hard to do tattoos with all that hair in the way xD

hays collins

I wanna know what your opinion is in the music. Do you like korra or avatar music better. I love the music of korra so much better because it brings out so much emotions for me listening to it again

witz

On the note of what was the change enacted/result of Amon (& Tarlock to an extent) as the season 1 villian(s), they disbanded the council full of benders running the city and replaced that system with a more democratic one. An elected president who is of course a non bender. I'm actually not sure if all the council were benders, since I know Sokka wasn't and the air acolyte in present day, but I think the gist was that non benders had no voice and the council contributed to that issue, especially Tarlock and his extremist views/actions at least.

agoodwintv
>>46091197

think I missed that element of it, or focused on something slightly different: I was relating her sadness to both her physical state, and also to the vision she had of all the villains telling her that her time had come to an end. But it makes sense that she might feel helpless seeing other people have to pick up the burden for her.

Calvin Brindley

No hate towards Tenzin, but his speech always sounds almost like a eulogy to me. Makes me feel even worse that Korra is just sitting there listening.

agoodwintv
>>46091371

Yeah, I definitely think this finale was more exciting than the previous season. And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that all the different elements are so fully developed and great in themselves (all the characters, the mini rivalries, the air nomads as a group, etc.).

newairnation
>>46091330

If I recall correctly, that trailer has some massive spoilers for the season, so I would advise against it.

agoodwintv
>>46091383

I can't remember the Avatar music well enough to say really. But my gut feeling is that the Korra music is more interesting overall. That being said, Korra borrows a lot from the original score so... tough to say.

Dierane

While I admit that season 3 is the best when all things are considered, season 4 is my personal favorite. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your reactions. This episode really solidified to me, the choice of taking away the past lives. The power exhibited by Korra when she was in the Avatar State was purely her and Raava, and not any of the other past avatars. Its incredible to see her prowess and brute strength come through . Depressing to see all of that be stripped away in that ending scene. Its such a disheartening moment, as Korra has always prided herself in being a strong Avatar, and now she is left suffering. A very bittersweet finale.

Cody Taylor

If one thing can be said about korra is that she doesn't get a break... Every season ends with her trying to put the pieces of her life back together. She wanted nothing but to be the avatar sense she was a little girl. Season one she gets her bending taken away. And it breaks her. Season two and Raava was literally ripped out of her. And she lost connection to her past lives. Season three she is nearly killed in the avatar state and is completely unable to do her duties as avatar and she has to sit back and watch Jinora;who looks like aang reborn with her tattoos; take up the torch with the other airbenders and basically preform the avatars duties for her. That single tear just says it all she is faced with aangs legacy and how much he is praised around the world and while she is at her lowest moment. That would break anyone's spirit.

Dierane
>>46091465

Yes!! I love Tenzin to pieces, but many of his comments in the next season irk me. I know he only has the best intentions in mind, but sometimes his words only further reiterate the helplessness that Korra feels

Dierane
>>46091663

Korra seems to lose a fundamental part of her self-identity every season, its harrowing to see. Crazy to think it was only a bit more than a year ago that she was safe in the white lotus compound

Spiral

That tear rolling down Korra 's cheek in that last shot gets to me every time. She was sheltered all her life, even from her own people, being brought up to believe that she was of great importance. She built her identity around her being the Avatar. But ever since she left the South Pole, every villain she's come up against has been a threat to that identity. That she's not needed anymore, and when she's ripped from that notion of herself, at the end of this episode, Tenzin proclaims that the air nation will take over for her. Even though it's with good intentions, I feel as if that just instills the notion that she truly isn't needed, and thus in a way Zaheer, Unaloq, and Amon won. And that single tear, I feel, is a representation of that defeat. But who knows, still powerful!

Anonymous

Well I've always connected the villains similarities not to the world relying too much on the avatar, but rather Korra and her character arc. All her life, she's valued being the avatar, and every time she's met adversity, her enemies have taken away from her her identity as the avatar. Amon with her bending, Unalaq with Raava which is literally what MAKES her the avatar, and Zaheer trying to END the avatar cycle. I resonate so deeply with korra and thats why I think the real tearjerker isn't Jinora (albeit it was a beautiful scene) but Korra. Zaheer got to her in a way NO other villain did. Now she physically cannot do her job. And the reason she cries is because although Tenzin means well, how it sounded to Korra was "While the avatar isnt able to do her job, the air nation will do her job for her. Which really hurts. The world needs the avatar, as they keep balance that Wan permanently upset. Seeing her cry as a broken woman is so painful.

carter joens

after season 1 they moved from a council to a president

Brandon Golpe

Season 4 is my favorite season because of the character development. Korra’s journey in season 4 is probably the biggest thing I take out of the series. Cant wait for you to start it!

Adam Vialpando
>>46092391

I'd actually rank book 4 over book 1. Book 1 had some great moments but was a bit inconsistent. Not only is book 4 consistently good it has great character moments and development. And while Amon might be more memorable book 4s villain was a bit more relatable.

Jupiterninja

Jinora getting her tattoos always makes me tear up. She looks so much like Aang!! 😭😭😭😭

SupremeCai

To the point of change you mentioned, one of the easiest ones I notice from season 1 is no more council and having an elected representative for non-benders (The President) although he isn't the best, it's a step towards change and equality for non-benders.

WolfWarrior623

This is probably my favorite finale of the 4 for so many reasons. The music, the fight, the end, everything. Korra seeing every villain she's fought throw her insecurities as the Avatar at her and just the overall theme of Korra's villains challenging and taking away a part of what she considered her identity as the Avatar, I love all of it. Korra v Zaheer is probably one of my favorite fights in the series. and watching that, I genuinely never understood people that call Korra weak, or call her Avatar State weak. She was holding her own in that fight, and doing a damn good job, solely relying on her own bending abilities, and Raava's power, while also having a shitload of poison in her body and being weighed down by platinum chains.

SupremeCai
>>46092078

What a great way to put it. People bash Korra but she's very different than Aang and has always had that confident "I AM THE AVATAR!" attitude of self-importance. Every villain challenges that, while also causing everlasting changes (President, portals opened, air avengers, small details like you mentioned) post-their season that reinforce it as well. I think it's just as "deep" a show as Atla, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy it just as much :D

Calvin Brindley

This makes me think back to Wan, when after sealing away Vaatu and closing the spirit portals, he decides he wants to bring balance to the world. Of course, he isn't able to before he dies, and Raava says they'll be together for all their lifetimes. Truly an honorable goal... but is it realistic? I'm not saying people shouldn't TRY to bring balance, but will the Avatar ever actually succeed? Why does the Avatar even HAVE to try and bring balance, who even kept that tradition going? Is it ethical for some person to be reincarnated and thrust into such a responsibility? Aang didn't even want it. And if the Red Lotus had captured Korra, what kind of Avatar would she have been? Zaheer talks about how much they could have taught her... Would they have started a new kind of Avatar tradition, one where the Avatar doesn't loom over the world as some large-authority figure "enforcing" its idea of balance.

Ramon Cintron

I love how Mako just capped a ho. He str8 up killed her no remorse

FlatOutBoy

Ming Hua: gets electrocuted by Mako Goodwin: WHOA COOL! Ghazan: I'd rather kill myself than go back to solitary prison Goodwin: Well I don't want anyone to die 😂😂 In all seriousness, I think this goes back to what you said. P'li, Ming Hua and Ghazan were there for emotional and human aspect and Zaheer was for ideological aspects. From previous episodes we know that Ghazan and Ming Hua were probably attracted to each other, so when Mako dispatched with her and helped Bolin, Ghazan realized that she might be dead and it's kinda over for him too. He can't take both of them and he is not the one for ideology. So I kind get why he would like to end his life instead. It would be interesting to see what Ghazan would become if not for Red Lotus influence. Was he innately this powerful or was the Red Lotus influence that helped him unlock the power of lava bending? Would he be able to do it himself? And his dynamic with Bolin was amazing. Loved the guy. Great season! Enjoy season 4!

Having gotten this far, I'm having trouble reconciling what I've seen from what people say about Korra, both the character and the show.

Blackeyedlily

I really enjoyed your appreciation of this episode, and the season as a whole. And I also agreed with everything you had to say about the lessons from this episode. After having watched it again through your eyes it’s still remains my favorite season of Korra. (Having my favorite character from ATLA in this season, Zuko, didn’t hurt.) Did you notice that Zaheer is the only villain to still be alive at the end of a season?

Brimmy

Yes there's more going on: She's depressed S4 expands on that also i just realized something When Zaheer was toying with her and she fell all the way down around 16:00, she landed feet first I always just assumed that her being in a wheelchair was cuz of the poison but no I'm pretty sure her legs were literally broken at this point because the only time she's standing on her own power is after the tornado since his air bending was keeping her up so he could suffocate her its amazing that i've now seen this show multiple times and i'm still discovering things about it XD

Juan Valencia

I love this finale, specially when Korra just went haywire while th poison was in her body, like you mention very similar to the uncontrollable defense mechanism Aang had in season 1. It just shows how your mind and inhibitions really damped the amount of raw power any of the Avatars are capable of. It really makes my heartbreak every time I see the last second of the episode when Korra sheds a single tear, just because of her headstrong personality and how traumatic and restrictive its for a person like her to be binded by a wheelchair or lack of bouncing back quickly.

Alexander Ortega

First off I want to say thank you for announcing my name I wasn’t expecting that honestly haha. I’m really happy you enjoyed this season and I cry every time for that last scene in this episode. I really have trouble deciding which season is the best but I do absolutely love this season. What you said about the pendulum moving to each side to extremes and never goes back to the same place like it was before really was a great analogy to how Korra’s villains affect aspects of her and the world around her. They have all changed something in the avatar world for better or for worse. Usually for the better. Excited for you to start season 4

Alexander Ortega

Also Jinora really looks like Aang without her hair. You really see the family resemblance and it’s so touching 😭

NitrousOxide19

I strongly strongly suggest you watch 'Korra Book 3 Alternate ending- A broken avatar' it really highlights how Korra has realised the idea of what an avatar is, slowly fading. She's been through a lot and it's such a sad ending

NitrousOxide19

you have to watch the youtuve vid ' Book 3 Alternate ending - A broken avatar' it gets me proper emotional HAHA. honestly Korra had such a robust ideal of what being the Avatar means and every season she's slowly been smacked down and down again and again. it's crazy to see all the shortcomings she's had ;/

Jerry Ferrell

As frustrating as President Reiko can be, from what is shown to us, he doesn’t seem to discriminate between benders and nonbenders. Amon wouldn’t have been able to make much traction if there wasn’t some legitimacy to nonbenders being disregarded in republic city.

Zach Lenstch

Season 1 the aftermath of Amon, was that Republic City disbanded the Council of Bender's, and established an elected democracy in the form of the President (and I assume accompanying elected government.)

DrowsyCody

The fact that Korra did all of that throwing mountains STILL while hindered by the poison just wow... Mako has a kill count and mako and Bolin kinda pushed ghazan over the edge of suicide I don’t know if you caught it but asami put Korra in the same dress she met Korra in all the way back in season 1 and asami gave Korra the golden pin she uses in all of her formal outfits. It is a really sweet detail. After season 1 nonbender got a voice in the way of and elected president riko Jinora finally got her tats and I love the song “service and sacrifice” that plays in the background. Fun fact season 1-3 all took place back to back in the same year

4Tom4lepus4
>>46100669

Korra is honestly a beast when it comes to the physical aspects of bending, even while poisoned! :D Yeah there's certainly no ambiguity in LOK when it comes to deaths and Mako certainly didn't pull any punches :D The music in the finale was on point in general, honestly.... and yeah, I totally love the details in the show and how far Korra and Asasmi have come from being romantic rivals in s1!

Panthy85 .

I'm so glad that you're enjoying this series. A lot of people are down on Korra and I do not get it. There aren't a lot of shows around that are as well put together as this, animated or otherwise.

Race Jenkins

In Season 1, the non-bending uprising caused Republic City to disband their council of benders and elect a non-bender president, so even Amon made some change happen.

Darby

That ending scene gets me every time. Season 3 is so damn good - the closest we get to ATLA quality. The only downside is the amount of characters they subsequently have to juggle and give their moments to that it takes away from other aspects a bit.

jassihere

That last scene always makes me so emotional. There are so many components that makes it great but heart wrenching. Jinora looks so much like Aang and it’s so bittersweet because she’s finally getting the appreciation and respect that deserves and she gets her tattoos. But it’s sad because Aang isn’t there to see his family and culture grow and mature like he’s always wanted. And then Korra is sitting there so mentally and physically drained and that one tear shows just how much she’s going through. One of my favorite scenes of this series. I also have a couple of favorites next season. 🙃

benj

4th season is amazing and these two seasons really transition into each other very well. You are going to have to pause and give us Goodwin Wisdom very often this season, no spoilers but there is a lot of Character study and really intricate writing about emotions and human connection. Looking forward to the final stretch of Korra, and then ATLA rewatch time.

Francesca White

that last scene always brings me to tears, especially that last frame of korra crying. she's been so much, she's so broken physically and mentally

George Bondo
>>46115814

Ehhhh idk about that. Korra's mechanics in terms of narrative structure are much deeper and more complicated than ATLAs. I think you mean closest in terms of superficial presentation.

ComicalSkate

In terms of Season 1's villains enacting change it can be seen in that fact that the bender council for Republic City was disbanded and a non-bender president was instated. Also just general improvement in terms of equality between benders and non-benders.

CatBRO

Waaaiiitt a minute. At 23:56 I never noticed ... and probably no one will read this anymore, but looks like the dude from his mothers basement they tried to recruit came around after all. He stands at the end of the line.
