AHHH IM READY TO CRY, THIS HAS BEEN SUCH AN AMAZING JOURNEY

benj

Yuki and Tohru’s conversation may very well be my favorite scene in the entire show, I remember full on sobbing first time I watched it. As someone who committed (for the most part) to watching the whole show after that Yuki x Tohru scene in the very first episode of the show on the street heading back to Shigure’s house from school, this dynamic coming back full circle at the very end of the show means so much to me. It deserves and receives just as much focus as the relationship with Kyo gets. It brought me true joy to watch these two have a purely platonic relationship that helped Yuki grow as a person so much, its unbelievably rare for a romance anime to not have a “loser” in the love triangle or play to some other trope. Remember when we were having to convince everyone on here who were new to the show that it wasn’t a reverse harem😂? Good times, good times.

Geneva The Weeba

I AM READY TO BE EMOTIONALLY DESTROYED YET AGAIN. The end of my favorite youtuber watching my favorite anime with my favorite protagonist and my favorite character. Thank you so much for choosing to watch Fruits Basket, Goodwin. I truly mean it: from the bottom of my heart.

Francesca White

i just wanna clarify something for everyone: it's made clear in the manga that Hana DOES NOT END UP WITH KAZUMA!! she just starts working for him as a cook. in the spinoff manga we also find out she married a foreigner. so no need to feel weird about Kazuma dating someone his son's age

bl0odm1st

Thanks for the series 🙏🏻 Can’t wait for the channels next chapter

benj

The void in my heart has recently grown so much larger…first, earlier today, I finished the K-On! movie which is the end of that show and its one of my new all time favorite series. Was suffering immensely from grappling with the fact that I’m done with that show…and now I have to deal with the end of Goodwin Fruits Basket commentary. Thanks again for choosing this show as a personal pick, there are so many anime out there that don’t get the appreciation I believe they deserve because they don’t feature flashy visuals or high octane action. For me this is one of those shows, but there are many many more masterpieces out there with a slice of life, based in reality structure that benefits your react style and the things you like to do commentary about.

I remember being so happy when the show was officially chosen for the channel…It never even occurred to me that we would actually you know…finish the show at some point. I can’t believe we are actually just…done. 😭

Nick

Part 1: We've arrived at my final overly long Fruits Basket comment. I have a lot of thoughts about this show and how it helped me as a human being The song landslide by Fleetwood Mac really makes me think of Fruits Basket. Also considering we are introduced to Tohru with a landslide destroying her tent (evil joke I know) I really didn't expect this to be such a perfect fit for the channel, but it turned into so much more than that. Watching these videos has helped me understand the characters, themes and story much more than I would have seeing it without that. More to add after I watch the video, very grateful and sad we're finally here

Ietseatapples

Just so you know, the final scene between Tohru and Yuki was the first scene Takaya ever wrote for Fruits Basket. She said this scene was the one that inspired the entire story for her. Imo Tohru and Yukis relationship is the most important in the entire series.

Saeheesshi

The prequel movie showing the story of Katsuya and Kyoko's relationship will be released soon. There are moments with Kyo and Tohru in the trailer so I imagine we'll get a little sneak peek into their new life together. This isn't the end 😊

Marissa

I've really enjoyed re watching along with you, catching things I missed on my first watch. This show definitely has a special place in my heart. Very excited for the Prelude movie this year.

arcana✦vox

And once again I was reduced to a sobbing mess. Such a wonderful, heartrending story. Thank you so much for reacting to and commentating this series, Alex. It's been a good time! Looking forward to all of your upcoming reactions!

Geneva The Weeba

Imagine the impact FB would have had on Goodwin had Yuki been blond

Mattie Grandstaff

Hey you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for reacting to this show. I have so many things you’ve said throughout this viewing experience written in my own personal journal, which is hilarious because I used to do the same as a child with quotes from the Fruits Basket manga. Thank you!

Francesca White

i think that it's very interesting that they basically had Shigure become a house husband to support Akito. i actually really like the decision, because it shows he's now making concessions and doing things not just for himself but for others (even if he still cares about himself most). but i also like how ambiguous his character stays, he's still that ripple on the water you can never grasp

jdthebud

Such a great ending. Sad it's over. I had no idea the ride I was in for when I started watching this show with you.

Crystalrose

It's sad to say goodbye but so sweet to see such a satisfying ending. Thank you so much for taking this reaction journey, it's been really fun seeing the show through your eyes. Thanks! 💐

Geneva The Weeba

extremely cursed comment warning "What's Shigure going to eat now?" You remember that incredibly lustful monologue from Akito last time? She's got something for him to eat, alright.

Francesca White

that speech that Yuki made to Tohru at the end was actually the first scene of the series that Takaya ever wrote, before she even came up with the concept of them turning into animals. i think it's really beautiful that she ended the show on Yuki and Tohru, though we did get the flash forward into old Tohru and Kyo which was also really sweet

Lysieblu

Bittersweet. I enjoyed rewatching this show with you.

Part 2: My only complaint about this finale is I really wanted to see that Tohru/Kyo send off celebration with everyone. Is that included in the manga? In any case, this show was phenomenal from beginning to end. Seeing Kyo and Yuki navigate their own problems as two sides of the same coin throughout all 3 seasons did something for my own mental health that I can't put into words. It lets me examine my issues/flaws and process them in a healthy way. Fruits Basket has such a positive message about perseverance that pulls at my soul much like the bond of the zodiacs, it makes me want to move forward and never stay stuck in the past.

Alyssa Callahan

And finally we have come to the end. It's bittersweet! Thank you for watching it and giving us your thoughts--it was so fun to revisit it from a different perspective! I think one of my favorite parts of this episode is when Yuki calls Tohru by her name for the first time. He's always called her "Miss Honda" before and he finally had the courage to tell her his feelings. It leaves no doubt that they will be lifelong friends. <3 There is sort of a sequel--but it's only a manga at the moment. I wonder if they'll ever adapt it? Anyway, thank you so much and I'm so glad you enjoyed this show that holds a very special place in my heart. :)

Francesca White
>>76256449

yup yup, Takaya even said herself that she views Yuki as the heart of the series, and that his story sums up the themes and what the story is about

Geneva The Weeba

"Though in this world, the children are probably gangsters. But only the girls," "There's this gap in knowledge between two people that only faith can traverse," "It's all Kyo's fault. It's Kyo's fault the show is ending," "A lot of times, the hardest things in life aren't difficult because of what they are in the moment. They're difficult because of the expectation that they won't change," "The show has spoken. And I am wrong." "Shigure, work your manipulative magic," "What's up? We don't have any baggage at all," "~Mommy?~" (This one made me CACKLE) "There were moments where I was on the edge of my seat, more than I've ever edged on my seat before. Many of them involving Akito and weapons," "The pain in others is the pain in myself,"

Nick
>>76257309

This is not as cursed as the "edging seat" quote from this video but it's definitely runner up in my book

Brimmy

"We don't get to see graduation?" us anime onlyies don't get to see much of anything honestly :/ "mind your business" NO IN THE SUB HE SAID ADVICE NOT NEEDED i like that line better @.@ BUT ALSO I LOVE THEM THEY ARE PRECIOUS BEST FRIENDS <3 <3 <3 also idk how i just glossed over yuki considering tohru to be like a mother...what last season?? earlier this season?? one of those but him saying she was like a mother to him blind sided me, cuz i just found it \so weird\ but here on a rewatch it makes so much more sense...still weird tho lmao idk i can't shake the weird feeling despite it being kinda cute???? YEAH THEY SHOT AHEAD LIKE A BAJILLION YEARS big kick in the balls for those who never read the manga and might think they've missed out on A L O T and that fucking picture i can't believe i never looked more closely i was just like HATORI?! and then proceeded to be confused cuz it wasn't hatori but i never really looked at the child and lady only to find out months later from the preview pic for the movie that its little tohru and her mom and dad lmao me from 5 months ago: "MY BABIES GREW UP AND BECAME OLD I’M NOT OK" XD feel that end of series depression from finishing an amazing anime? it happens...a lot... Thanks for the awesome reaction series Alex <3

>>76257158

I'm guessing a really common experience with this show is the feeling that it sneaks up on you and you have no idea what's coming when you start it lol

Brimmy
>>76257703

u should make a twitter and just post goodwin quotes to it

Tracy McGill
>>76258202

I had to look it up in the manga but he does say mind your business. I can understand the confusion with the picture. I origionally thought it was a picture of tohru and Kyo, then realized it wasn't.

Kimberly Oblinger

When you do another none shonen anime again I highly recommend Violet Evergarden. Like Fruits Basket it has so much to say and really makes you think about little things that we take for granted every single day. It’s a good anime for reflection.

Sweetbun

Its always bittersweet ending a series, especially one as wonderful as Fruits Basket. I first read the manga back when i was 10yo. Now 12 years later & it still stands as one of my favorites. I feel as though it is one of those timeless series that you find more and more enjoyable each time you experience it, you know? I really appreciated your reaction/commentary. Hearing someone else's perspective on a beloved show is always fun and refreshing! I'm glad you enjoyed it~ :D

agoodwintv
>>76259518

That makes 2 votes for Violet Evergarden on this thread! That might just be the one :D

Megan

Thank you Goodwin! Thank you for this experience. Fruits basket every other day has been so much fun.

ArmdVctr

I hope you watch Maquia Film in the future. The main character has the same voice actor as Tohru, at least in Japanese. And also has her in a motherly role.

Fabiola Macias

🥲 too sad to see it all end to comment anything meaningful… other than I’m so glad you watched it!

ArmdVctr

Fruits Basket Another is more like a Victory lap. It's a very short and sweet story, It's about the ripple effect of Tohru's actions to the Sohma's. The main character also has a single mom but unlike Kyoko, she gaslights her own daughter demeans her. Her life changes when she meets the school's most popular students, all with the last name of Sohma.

raesh

Ahhh..its over!!🤧🤧 Time to rewatch!!

jjkpjm

Well the ending really ends like this in the manga, they didn't skip chapters here, but before this episode they skipped quite a lot of moments😅 I hope you will react to prelude that will be out soon! And thank you so much for reacting to Fruits basket, this anime means really a lot to me so to share this experience with others is really a huge treasure💛

Andrea Rodríguez

Aaaand this is when I restart from 1x01 again 🥲

ArmdVctr

Alex, you should watch the episode where Yuki tells Kakeru she wants to tell Tohru about his feelings someday. Notice the clothes he and Tohru are wearing in his imaginary handshake.

ArmdVctr

Who would have ever thought that Akito would be included in "Everyone Loves You". Tohru really became the new God of the Zodiac.

alhana morehouse

I watched the original anime and the manga when I was in middle school and i've never stopped loving it! This series is gonna stick with me and always be in my heart forever. I'm really happy you enjoyed it!

Athena

I'm sad, so sad, that this journey is over. I was so excited when you first came out with these reactions because this is my favorite romance anime. It deserves a lot of love that this community surely delivered. I'm so happy you enjoyed this ride and connected to this huge cast of characters and their individual developments. Excited to see what's next for your channel! Thank you for reacting to this special series :)

Athena

I can't tell you how much I replayed your "mommy" joke and how hard I laughed because of how unexpected it was😂

jjkpjm

We barely saw kyoru as the couple and then bam instead saw them already as grandma and grandpa. Recommend to read the manga in general cause here we saw their cute moments during their final days of high school, even class' reaction to them dating but anime unfortunately decided to skip it and other character's moments too. But in both manga and anime I really liked the ending. Even though it's bittersweet cause if you think about it you would be quite worried about adult characters during this time but I decide not to think too much and think that they're all still alive. But I really like to see kyoru as an old couple rather than just a married couple that only start their own family. That ending means that Kyo really kept his promise, he really protected and took care of Tohru for his all life. He didn't run away this time, they're both still lovey dovey holding hands and loving eo so much, no other ending would assure us that they won't divorce, that they will be happy in the future and that both of them will live long life. Like both Katsuya and Kyoko died in the young age and Kyoko's last wish for Tohru was to live a happy long life. So I'm really happy to see both old kyoru still happy and together. And I believe even tho we didn't get to see other characters they're all happy too I'm sure🥰

CRS

Gosh what an incredible show. Yuki's story was totally parallel to what was going on lol He took Tohru's teachings and applied them to progress in the outside world away from his family's drama. He was like a deuteragonist in a way. Meanwhile, everybody else's story was steeped in the muck that was the Soma family promise-turned-curse and Akito's reign of terror. lol Glad it's nominated for multiple Crunchyroll awards. It definitely deserves it. I wish Jerry Jewel had joined Laura Bailey in best VA even though I can't fault all the Sk8 love in that category. lol

Evalone

Well, we are gonna have an epilogue. It was confirmed : the prelude movie surrounded kyoko and Katsuya will include exclusif content that even we manga reader never gad about Kyoru. This ending always makes me cry. It's amazing that this whole stuff began with the idea of Tohru and Yuki relationship. That's proof enough for me they are the 2 protagonist of this series. I'm disapointed we never saw how Yuki and Akito interact after the whole thing. And they're so much that's missing from the manga... Like Komaki. One day... No many series take the time to make a full 3 or 4 episodes worth of epilogue, and they should take notes.

Suiadan

I just wanted to say thank you for reacting to Fruits Basket and giving us your thoughts. It's honestly been a highlight of the week and really given an even deeper insight than I obtained on a first watch. I'm happy I joined Patreon to continue to follow the journey and look forward to many more shows to come!

Ietseatapples

I don't wanna start an anime vs manga fight in the comments, so if anyone does that, Im going to delete this. I know theres gonna be a ton of people screaming "Read the manga!". Ive read the manga so many times I literally can tell you exactly what chapters each episode adapts. There was stuff that got left out, but in the grand scheme of things, its really not a ton. Im just letting you know because reading a full manga is a big committment, so I don't want you going in with the expectation that there is like a whole seasons worth of material that is all new for you. When the Kyoko movie comes out, i'd say that 90-95 percent of the manga will have been adapted. But if you have the time, I think you would enjoy it.

Vee

Mannnnn Im gonna miss this show! Thank you for the great reactions Goodwin! Also, dont worry about kagura, she got her happy ending in Fruits Basket Another. Married and has a son! Momiji got his own love too and has 2 kids :’)

Mortis

Akito isn’t going to the send off because she doesn’t want to risk upsetting the zodiac members (or well ex members) by being there and having to be around her. As she mentions it’s not like she can’t just go see tohru anytime she wants so she is willing to give up on going to this event so the others can just enjoy it. It’s a really good show of how far she’s come that she knows now that people will love her so she doesn’t need to insist on holding on so tight and is able to put other people feelings ahead of her desires when she needs to instead of insisting on having everything

lineth pizarro

ahh this episode made me sob so bad at first haha, from the flashbacks to every character interactions, to the final convo between yuki and tohru. i really feel like i could watch this show over and over and always come to new reflections, which is what makes it so great! i’m so glad i got to finish watching you react to the show (especially after you had to stop posting to youtube) because the conversation and the thoughts you had in each episode have always been so interesting to me, and there’s always something i can apply or question to my own experiences. thank you so much for watching fruits basket, truly!! and hopefully you’ll watch the movie which i’m, personally, really excited for!

Hanan from Math pi Hanan

I’m glad you enjoyed the show. The final season was quickly paced even for manga readers. I was wondering if you only react to anime, or if you’d consider reacting to a SciFi show like 12 Monkeys

benj

You reacting to the final end credits felt exactly like Zuko looking through the scroll going “That can’t be it. Where’s the rest of it?” lmao

ArmdVctr

I like how Yuki's kid takes after uncle Ayame.

Marina B

This episode always makes me cry like a baby. The fact that they got to live a happy life and grow old together like her mom wanted, and that they are STILL so in love just makes my heart swell. I love them so much.

Stephanie

Thank you so much Alex for reacting to Fruits Basket! This is my favorite anime because it changed my life and you gave it an even bigger perspective than I thought I already had! It has been an amazing journey and just thank you for all your insights and reactions!

Kayla Grabow

Curious if you'll be watching the movie as well, hopefully you do. I just finished all the reactions since I came over from Youtube and must I say thank you for the great reactions.!!

José Luis García

I'm a bit later but SO GLAD I had the chance to revisit Fruits Basket with your commentary. Thanks so much, Alex, and though I join Patreon because of this reactions, I'll try to support while you watch Demon Slayer, your commentary on the first episodes is already great.

Sklargen

I remember when I finished Fruits Basket I just felt so sad. Not because it was a sad ending but because I fell in love with these characters and now I won't get to see them again. It was like never seeing a friend again. It hurt me. I know how you feel when you said you weren't ready.

Morgan Ormond

This was a hard goodbye knowing this was the last Fruits Basket video I'd see you do! Followed you from Youtube because you always brought a lot of insightful thoughts to this show. Fruits Basket is a show/manga that always meant so much to me, but it's a hard sell when trying to get friends to watch it. So this channel was like watching a friend get into this show and being able to share it with them. Thank you :) I'm going to continue to support and check out your other videos.
