Tbh, I keep forgetting there are videos on Saturdays too, and I actually DONT have the weekend to catch up. Welp.

THE GLOVES HAVE BEEN THROWN OFF! THE HEADLINE HAS BEEN WRITTEN! NO MORE ABSURD MINDGAMES! MIYUKI SHIROGANE HAS REJECTED THE BASIS OF THIS ANIME! IT IS TIME FOR ULTRA ROMANTIC

Finn

that story with your mom getting you into the school was so good, and that you actually delivered that year too

Shirogane will just keep moving forward until all his confessions are delivered. Tatake, President! Tatake! I really enjoy how both Maki’s warning from the end of last episode about not ending up like her because of waiting for too long to confess and Miyuki trying to convince Haysaka to be her true self have combined to push Shirogane over the edge to finally start walking the walk. Great writing.

The scene where Miyuki's father enters with a rendition of Careless Whisper playing is peak comedy

This is the second time that Kaguya unknowingly turns Miyuki down on a date and it leads to Miyuki and Ishigami having a great time. First one was that shojo manga romance episode

In S2, Shirogane holds a book labelled "TOEFL" ( https://imgur.com/9VwksjD ) TOEFL is "a standardised test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enrol in English-speaking universities" The only reason anyone would ever read this book would be if they were interested in studying abroad. Incredible piece of foreshadowing that is incredibly subtle and 100% intentional.

👏 100%. If you're working locally in Japan and need proof of English proficiency, you'd usually get a "TOEIC" score. In contrast, the TOEFL is specifically for studying abroad, and it's an annual news story that Japanese average scores are lower than students in Korea, China, and the rest of Asia. Also random, but I used to work for ETS (the giant, evil corporation that makes the TOEFL, SAT, GRE, LSAT, etc.), making questions for the TOEFL. I think the modern test design is actually pretty well done ... but obviously that doesn't take away from the fact that it's used to terrorize people into 100s of hours of "test prep" that take away from their general enjoyment of life.

Here we go! Now we are getting to the really meaty parts of this season and one of my favorite arcs in all of anime. The two guys who failed to get a cultural festival date in the 2nd skit are Miyuki's friends from the karaoke episode. They are also going through their own struggles in love. If nothing changes, Kashiwagi (stay at Shuchiin), Tsubasa (med school in another uni), and Maki (going to another uni) are set to go their separate ways after high school. This is the same for Miyuki (abroad), Kaguya (Shuchiin), and Chika (another uni). The countdown to separation has begun. Time is running out. This element of time has been hinted at in the OP for this season.

“Fruits Basket set my expectations sky-high,” (catch me saying this to everything in the known universe) “Someone’s dream is anime beach character,” “What is it with anime and having the creepiest parents?” “Economics, huh? Prepare for four years of trying to chart the world as if it exists on two axes and thinking that’s reality,” “Oh my God Miyuki who are you and I love you. My little boy Miyuki growing up,” “Please God. Or Ishigami,” “That only leaves one person. Our savior!” (ENTER CHIKA) “Don’t settle! People tell you to settle. Don’t settle,” “The silver lining in this whole discussion is that people don’t know what they want,” “It’s hard to know your true gifts. Because your gifts are just a baseline,” (The Fruits Basket plum-on-your-back talk strikes again) “The label does absolutely nothing to that effect,”
