You can REALLY tell by a bunch of his work that Ryukishi07 used to be a social worker. All the characters feel like real people with issues that are understandable and even if you don't forgive them they all feel like you can understand what lead them to be the way they are. One thing you missed is the reason that the dad sells Hinako into marriage isn't just because he has debt, the collectors are annoying but manageable, it's that the mom is dying. She has some kind of condition (likely cancer) that they need the money to treat and that's what the fight at the start of the game is about and that's why the dad freaks out to the level that he throws a knife at his daughter. It's because if Hinako doesn't marry Kotoyuki her mom is going to die.

Hey there! Weeks late to the party, but as a JP->EN translator, I wanted to clarify a small point of confusion. When Hinako's father turns Hinako away from the family home on her wedding day, it isn't in response to their fight. Rather, he's reciting a stock line rooted in the notion that a woman's marriage is her being "given" to a new family and household, thus severing her ties with the current household. Functionally, this is the same thing as Hinako's mother's "You look so beautiful!"--a way of celebrating his daughter's marriage. Just...with a patriarchal tinge. Fantastic video! Well presented and edited.
