For Patrons $1+:

In recent months, reports have circulated the web about how Nintendo will resolve the conundrum of storage with its new hybrid platform, the Switch. Granting users the ability to use third party HDD's as they did with the Wii U is clearly no longer a viable option given its portable nature. We first heard about the possibility of SDXC cards being used from the always brilliant Let's Play Video Games.

I'm happy to say that (thanks to multiple sources) I can corroborate their reports and add to them. The LPVG article mentioned that Nintendo's development kits were using SDXC cards with support up to a maximum of 128GB. This number might strike you as inadequate given the file sizes of storing certain games digitally, but fret not - rumour has it that this was not final.

As mentioned in my report about battery life, which I posted a little while ago, these digits are sourced from temporary dev kits - not the final ones, which Nintendo have since distributed. I have heard from multiple sources that the final kits support SDXC cards of up to 1TB of storage.

Keep in mind that this is not 100% representation of what the retail units might support, but it is definitely a more likely indication over the previous number given how close we are to launch at this point.

How do you feel about this as a potential solution for Nintendo's storage woes? Do let me know.
