The town of Venaden was one of Lurzia's most important holds on the Strait of Branden. It was settled in the year 1,991 in the Age of Exploration on a tract of land where the Tumultuan jungle had relented, revealing a fertile beachfront with pleasant breezes. Venaden was the closest glimpse of civilization for 100 miles in any direction, and although the Tumultuan jungle loomed menacingly in the distance, the Venadenites were convinced that it's many dangers would stay contained.

The settlement grew quickly, and became a well known stop for Lurzian traders and explorers alike. All seemed well until the end of the Rifted Age, when natives from the jungle began emerging, speaking of unthinkable terrors shrouded deep within the jungle. For years, dragons were but a mythical beast in the region, and all manner of learned men and women dismissed any notion of such winged monsters ever venturing south of the Vangla mountains far to the North. The clever natives insisted, but were shunned for their doomsaying and their unfamiliar appearance.

So the natives set out on their own archaeological expedition to prove the existence of dragons in the jungle. Their efforts were successful, and they uncovered an ancient burial ground with dragons entombed in enormous mounds. They sought to share their findings, but it was too late for the residents of Venaden, whose negligence came back to bite them.

Ignorant and unprepared, the Venadenites were no match for the great green dragon, Auzilium, who emerged from the jungle and laid waste to the town. She devoured every humanoid in sight, seizing the town's great bounty in the process. The Tumultuan natives emerged to behold the aftermath, and took to rebuilding the town with a culture of diversity and open-mindedness. They renamed the town Auzilium, in the hopes that the dragon's vanity would prevent another attack.

1,000 years later, Auzilium still stands strong, serving as a great melting pot for cultures of every variety. Many claim that the dragon has grown benevolent, pleased with the prosperity of her namesake, but others fear that she's simply dormant and that one day soon she will return to reclaim the land for herself...
