“In the third year of the Formation Age (the first age after the Fold), drought engulfed the Sabrian Domain. When it was still on Vor, the Domain’s capital city of Bol cradled the deep Lake Mercy in its central basin. However, after the Fold spliced Bol and its immediate surroundings into the planet Rong’lu, the city’s elevation was more than doubled. Consequently, Mercy drained out of Bol and the Alvoshian Table descended into thirst. Without hesitation, Queen Zetven chartered numerous expeditions into Alvosh to locate water. A year passed and Bol was flailing in dehydration when a team on the opposite end of the continent found the Domain’s solace. On the southwestern peak of the Crested Ridge, a mountain range just before the fogs of the Watered Flat, the Elves happened upon an intense spring whose flow was seemingly endless. The Elves, calling it “The Swollen Well,” plunged a teleportation sphere into the spring and transmitted the torrent back to Bol. The drought was solved and the properties of the water rendered the Sabrian Domain more fertile than it had ever been.

With an impending economic upswing in mind, the Sabrian Council proposed a tax to fund protective infrastructure around the Swollen Well. Zetven and the city’s treasury approved the motion, and in less than a year the defensive city of Mercy’s Keep was established in the mountainside around the Well. Both during and after the city’s development, the Domain encountered Humanoid scouts whose origins were unknown and difficult to obtain due to language barriers. Official reports tell that the scouts had rounded ears, stood about two-thirds the height of an average Elf, and wore armor crafted from what appeared to be hard sponge. They were lightly armed, though not hostile. The scout’s passivity meant nothing to the uncompassionate Elves, who took the strangers’ mere presence as an act of aggression. The Domain maliciously altered the designs of Mercy’s Keep to include prisons where they could “house” and interrogate captured scouts. The facilities were often built deep into the Ridge and as close as possible to lava flow so the prison cells could bake their captives. Such brutality was only the beginning of Elven corruption.”
