I'm a massive fan of the west wing - its been my 'white noise comfort show' for a long time, and my total number of full rewatches probably exceeds 20 at this point. God, do I wish I could find I a single thing you said that isn't true. (oh, here's the small one - at 10:54, it seems to me that what bartlett leaves unsaid is 'what does it mean if we're not also the world's church' since the issue was over accepting christian refugees)

good note! i truly did not understand that line until you just laid it out. Of course, "being the world's church" is a little weird of a thing to say for the president of a country that's not supposed to have a state religion!

Jacob Shpiece

Yeah, honestly Bartlett seems to low key resent that limit - or as he says to Charlie in Red Mass, 'sometimes you just don't give a damn'

I knew that there were democrats who were fans of the west wing but.....holy shit. Americans really cannot tell the difference between TV and real life. Unless it's something stupid like "in real life the batsignal wouldn't work!" If it concerns the larger narrative a show or movie is perpetuating then they accept it at face value or even just warp it to fit their own ideas about how the world "should" work.

Awesome video as always. I've never watched the West Wing but I'm a huge fan of the stuff I've watched from sorkin, I was a sucker for the newsroom back when it was coming out. Obviously these last few years and with my ideology moving to the left over the year I realize how it's also very ideallist and removed from reality

Great video. Another huge West Wing fan -- grew up watching it every Friday with my family for years. Been slowly showing my wife the series and it is really starting to feel dated. I've noticed a lot more criticism of the West Wing in the last few years as people turn away from its sentiments.

the quiet, hopeful music in the background of the clips where White House staffers decide they need to listen more to different points of view has never failed to piss me off

If Books Could Kill mention! Second video (that I know of) that features Peter Shamshiri! Also, I'm excited to see if any of the future videos will compare the show to Veep. I've never seen the West Wing, and I've never been in the White House, but I imagine Veep is a more accurate portrayal of D.C.

definitely been at least 2! i'm trying to remember if there's another one, but both of the Law & Order videos feature Peter's podcast mate Rhiannon!

Bruna

Yes, when I first started listening to 5-4 I was psyched that I had also seen Rhiannon in your videos!

Popping in to say in Illinois we have our own white guy JB, but he has a leg up on the competition by being neither old nor Catholic
