The Bog Queen

Well, since you brought it up, what is the meaning of life?

-You are planning to do a video on top gun maverick, which is a movie and not a TV show. Why did you feel it was so important for you to talk about it specifically and will you make exceptions to your "I only cover TV" rule again in the future? I'm perfectly fine if you break this rule any time you feel like it. -I started watching Atlanta for the first time and just recently watched the talk show episode in season one. That episode has fake commercials, like the cereal commercial that satirizes police brutality. The version of hulu I have still has advertisements and as I was watching that episode I came to realize that this might have been beneficial. There was something about having real ads mixed in with fake ones that made the experience of watching that episode so surreal. I enjoy being able to watch episodes of shows without advertisements but do you think there are times when watching an episode with ad breaks can be beneficial to the experience? I sometimes miss the "cliffhangers" before commercial breaks, but I think there is an argument to be made that having to write around commercials can disrupt your pacing and your audiences investment in a story. Any thoughts on how the need for commercials has shaped the evolution of television as a medium? -Also funny story, I've been sharing some of your copaganda videos with a friend. When I was visiting with them recently I showed them the cartoon 'Gargoyles' which has a cop as a side character. Just this week I got a message from them. They have continued watching the show and they are now writing an essay about the copaganda present in the cartoon just for fun. I thought you would be happy to know that you've made an impact on people.

Have you ever seen My Name is Earl? If so, what are your thoughts on it? I ask mainly because I felt it did a good job of generally being an uplifting show without being shallow in the things it depicted, so as an aside, are there any other shows like that you could recommend?

That One French Guy

Have you ever seen Banshee? If so, what do you think of it?

Apologies if you've answered this before, but what happened to The Americans Season 6 Rewatch?

Have you tried turning it off and on again? :)

That One French Guy

Well since you asked, Banshee is about a thief that just got out of prison after a 15 year stretch, finds his girlfriend from back then hiding in a small town called Banshee from the boss the screwed over on their last job where he got caught and discovers that she's now married with children. Through insane events he becomes the new sherif of the town and tries to protect his ex from their old boss now hot on his trail, somewhat be a cop and still pull jobs with old and new friends. The series is a neo-noir pulp ride, with awesome fights scenes, lots of sex, gangs and shootouts. 75% of it's dialogue is comprised entirely of punchlines, 30% of its runtime consists of fist fights and sex scenes, and I love it to death. It set its mind on being pure trashy fun with a rock solid emotional heart, and it does it extremely well. It's confident, full of swagger, carried by amazing actors, great fight scene coreography and bold color choices (New York is always ORANGE) for example. Character development is well handled; some will die, some will evolve, everybody will suffer at some point and god damn will you be gripped through it all. Honestly just watch the first episode. It's the kind of series that's extremely upfront about what it's going to be, and if it's not clicking for you in the first one it probably won't come later. TL;DR: think Ed Brubaker's Criminal mixed with a Scott Adkins movie. Noir and bombastic with cool fight scenes.
