Hey everybody!

Hit me with your questions! Ask me about anything: The PAW Patrol video, The Rehearsal, my research process, or any of those shows in the Roundup. Ask me things, that's what this is all about. If you don't ask me any good questions, I'll just spend the whole time thinking of questions to ask you! See how you like it!

I'll post the link here as always but I'll be live on Sunday 10/23 @ 5pm PDT so submit your questions before then

It wasn't a livestream because I'm the worst, but I did still answer all the questions live for me: https://youtu.be/JbAm1os_AMk

I will resist asking you about Midnight Mass (one of my favourite shows of all time) and just wait for the Flanaganabonanza, so instead: how did you enjoy the rest of HotD? As usual, I hope you’re doing well ❤️

Copaganda question: After years of heightened awareness about police actions, why haven't we seen a shift in media towards the private detective again?

Are you familiar with the Canadian police procedural Flashpoint, and if so, how does it fit into the larger world of copaganda. Also, are you planning to look at forensics programs, like the CSI franchise or Bones, and how they fit into the world of copaganda?

I'm not Jackson, but I think that's a good question! I think we might be starting to see more PI stories in movies again, thanks in part to movies like Knives Out. We'll see what happens but I think Hollywood is taking note of knives out's success and Rian Johnson is developing a PI case of the week show called "Poker Face" so if both those are super successful then its likely that trend will take off. Interestingly enough, the HBO Perry Mason reboot had a first season that was written and framed much more like a PI drama than a traditional Perry Mason tv episode. (Sorry Jackson, not trying to steal your thunder.)

1. What did you think of reservation dogs season 2? Personally I loved it and I think its better than season 1. (Not gonna lie, half the episode this season made me cry). Only episode I didn't like was the one where officer big goes on a drug trip and meets the weird catfish cult. I'm usually a fan of more surrealist/experimental stuff but that episode just didn't work for me. 2. Jon Stewart got some positive social media coverage recently for his piece on trans rights issues. Any thoughts on Stewart's piece? Also, what has the reaction to your Stewart videos been like? Has anyone said that your videos changed their perspective on him or the media ecosystem? I still see people mindlessly praising Stewart on reddit and saying they wish he would run for office. Every time I see those comments I just want to go "Have you people SEEN Irresistible?" 3. I know you're a big Watchmen fan. I'm sure you saw that the show was in the news recently, because Alan Moore did another interview and the big news publications turned it into click bait. (Although for the record, Damon Lindelof sending Alan Moore 'a powder blue barbecue apron with a hydrogen symbol on the front.' is the definition of a stupid move.) Anyways, the recent interview with Moore got me thinking. Did you feel conflicted about Watching or recommending the HBO show given that DC comics screwed Alan Moore over and Moore hates it when people adapt his work? I feel slightly conflicted about it as an aspiring artist myself. On one hand I feel really bad for Moore, but simultaneously I think its a good thing that the HBO show ultimately raised awareness of the Tulsa race Massacre and I think stuff like the Hooded Justice twist really deepens the original material. The legacy of Watchmen as creative work is a complicated one, both in terms of the effects it had on superhero stories, and the way it has changed American culture and the entertainment industry as a whole. Also, have you read any of other pieces of Alan Moore's work be it his comics or his novels? Personally, my favorite Alan Moore comic is his excellent Swamp Thing run. I like that series way more than I like Watchmen.

Hi Jackson! I'm super curious about your thoughts on Top Gun. Do you think there's anything specific that distinguishes it from other military-funded movies/blockbusters? Is its success box office and critic-wise worrying or kinda just par for the course? Congrats on finishing the Paw Patrol video, hope you're doing well! :-)

Feel free to ask about Midnight Mass! I’m not focusing on it super hard as it’s own thing in the video, more about Flanagans style across all his projects!

Hi Jackson! New patron, longtime viewer of your YouTube channel. Looking forward to seeing my name in the credits lol. I would love your next deep essay to be about the relatively recent trend of White-Indigenous allyship TV shows like Hilary Swank in ABC's Alaska Daily and Ed Helms in the now-cancelled series Rutherford Falls on Peacock. The invisibility of Indigenous Peoples and their issues in the United States (relative to Black and Latino issues) has always fascinated me as a Canadian. (Here in Canada, the opposite is the case.) What kind of relationships about colonialism and Indigenous sovereignty could you connect to your incredible critiques of capitalism? I'd be fascinated by where your research might take you in this space!

Are there any books, shows and/or other content that you consider "foundational texts" that generally inform your processes/analysis? Are there any texts that you think would broadly make people more critical consumers of media, TV especially?

Amy Birch

I would love it if you could do deep dive into the current obsession with true crime. The new Dahmer show is the peak of this iceberg - but why do we all care about these kinds of shows?
