I wrote a post a while ago, about how Bible Camp Bloodbath was not the book I had hoped it would be (see "Fixing my own mistakes" ), and why I expanded it into The Summer is Ended and we are not yet Saved.

But Bible Camp Bloodbath was not the first form of the story, either.  BCBB started out its life as a short about a boy and his young mother. It was a story that never had a title, but which I loved. Sometimes you write a story that just feels different to you somehow, and you think, "This relationship could be a whole book."

Over the years I tried expanding it several times. It never wound up being as perfect as I hoped, although elements from those attempts found their way into "One Bloody Thing After Another" and even "Overqualified," I always held onto the story itself, hoping I would find the perfect larger story to build on it.

I think Summer is Ended is that perfect form, and it is where Martin and Elizabeth belong. But not everyone likes horror, and anyway maybe you'd be interested to see where they come from. So here you are:

an untitled story about a boy and his mother.
