He looks like the sensible sort of base commander. The type who, upon discovering that the lead scientist is snogging the mysterious alien, does not try to separate them but rather assigns another scientist to monitor the situation from further away and tells the guards that the first scientist shouldn't be allowed outside the facility just in case.
