Gonna reread this tomorrow and see if I like where it's wrapping. I get the feeling what I wanted to be 51 will need to be layered into this, but we'll see!

God. I hope Abel is relieved of duty. No matter how high up the chain of command you are. You don’t get to override a doctor. And you don’t get to just dismiss a doctor because they tell you what you don’t want to hear. Pushing someone who had as bad of an injury as Viv had could have catastrophic consequences and could see her recovery decline and actually regress.

Part of me finds it funny I don't dislike Abel as much as others. I think part of it is I get some of the motivation behind it given what we know is going on and what Rei represents. That and I think she's fine playing the hated bad guy if in the end it means humanity pulls through unless I've misunderstood her motivations. I'm wondering if she's trying to push these three specifically to test that theory about his forms and maybe also see if it can push Chancery and Logan given they have had the least in terms of upgrades.

I'm wondering if there's a point when Rei just tells her No. What are they going to do strip him of his CAD? Tell him he's going to be brigged? I think not. Hopefully Rei realizes his worth, and refuses to be a puppet and a plaything.

Honestly, after reading this, I hope either Dent or somebody else completely skewers Abel as she might not seem evil, but she pushes too far and needs to be checked.

The team and him, are the greatest hope against the Arcon's. And if he refuses, I wonder if Abel will tell him why she is pushing him and the team. You get more work out of a person using free will, than a slave.

Abel reminds me of Umbridge in that, while no one relates to the fantastical bad guys like the Arcon or Dark Lord, everyone has to some degree suffered from a total bitch like Abel and can feel it in their souls. See you next Tuesday

Honestly I somehow hope that Viv regresses because of Abel. I certainly don’t want Viv to suffer any more than she already has but if it happens they could file complaints (or whatever you do in the military when you regress because a superior officer interfered with the recovery) and Abel would have to be a background character again. I just hope that thing doesn’t also like cats and pink.

If she does that and disregards the fact that the team seems to be evolving uniquely. Then he can double down and just say I won't even call my CAD. That and he's got his grandfather Hiroto and his company who makes tech for the various devices that the military uses.

Everybody in the military reports to somebody, and I’m willing to bet Kamiya is more important to Abel’s boss’ bosses than she is. If she pushes too far things might not go her way.

Regardless I know it will end up being satisfying if it is revenge for her being a bitch or dying after a redemption arc. I need it.

Very good chapter, Abel is a total Bi**h, you don't go against the medical professional. Medical has the trump card. And Dent or Von bron needs to smack Abel around. 10 matches back to back, they all need a break. You are going to have lot's of editing and coordination between chapters. Best of luck

Abel is over stepping. At the end of the day these are still students and young new soliders, 1st years at that. Guest has the right to step in. And if he doesn't Rei's grandfather has some clout. I don't like knowing they are being used so badly and they are even out of the first year

NO. Medics are there for a reason. Im not pushing some 18 year old who is still in basic into possibly permanently hurting themselves, especially while she is still recovering from a TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY. And I wouldnt be kicking out the medical staff there to make sure she doesn't hurt herself. Thats not only negligent but actively sabotaging and arguably attempted murder. Brain injuries are no joke. I work in the medical field and Ive several brain surgeries myself.

Fuck, I hate her. Like in the way that I hated Umbridge when I read those books. Like if I ran into a real person who acted like that I would quit a job rather than working with her.

In the real world military a doctor can override a general. What she did sending them away is like the equivalent to a cop turning off their body camera. A court would assume she broke the law and put the cadet in danger unnecessarily. Besides if she wants to win the war so badly she can go die on the front lines. I hate her so much.

There is something about her that tells me she can't be redeemed. She feels like Umbridge, someone whose only motive is the suffering she can justify doing while accomplishing her goals. I hope she dies off screen and is never seen again. I hate her so much.

I don’t think she views herself as evil. She’s just an ‘end justifies the means’ type of person. Right now she’s seeing Rei as the best chance humanity has of not losing the war in the next decade. She doesn’t care if she has to break all of their souls as long as she gets her weapon.

2026-09-06 19:00 I know people hate Abel, and she is written to be that way, but I think we need to think about the context and where here priorities are and HAVE to be. They are losing a war, and Rei and Fire song are the first real hopeful development they have. So she may be a cold bitch, but she has to be in order to do her job. I personally hope for a future in the story where we begin seeing these tough military officers in a different light, and even if we think they're assholes, we can at least see their motivations and that they at least deserve respect.

I completely agree. When you get to her level its more about the bigger picture than individual numbers. It sounds cold but you have to look at things from a statistical overall picture. If she has to push Rei and firesong to their limit and back repeatedly until they drop to make them the best they can be as fast as possible it is worth it in her eyes. They could be the key to winning the war. Pretty sure ANY General would agree (and most any soldier) that giving six lives to save millions is well worth the trade. Heck most men or women in the military would gladly give their life to save just a few fellow military. Ya shes cold and trying to do things in a way that is dirty and underhanded, but shes doing her job. Im sure if she came out and was honest with firesong they would glady push beyond their limit every day to save humanity!

It just make u wonder how does someone who seem to have no social skills whatsoever got to this position. there are ALOT of ranks in the army and each one of these require socials skills and ability to manage.

Ends justify the means or whatever but things like literal torture at the planetary sct with the s ranks should still justify a war tribunal after the war is over. Sure the training ain't that bad but she is also not really a character to sympathise with.

I think it is in the chapter where Rei sees Abel visiting Viv in the hospital that it says she is not a user, but right after that it says something like she has a very strong presence. That along with all the officers being nervous or upset around her it easy to equate her with being a user.

Another enjoyable chapter. It is great to see Rei vs Chancery and Logan in a 2v1. Man I dislike Abel so much. I know she is pushing them because of the war, and probably trying to see if she can get Chancery or Logan to have an evolution or change. But the way she does it drives me crazy. Bryce, well done in creating a character that can illicit such a reaction.

It does feel like weeks, bro, but i'm pretty sure.It's only been about three days. Ray evolved the day after meeting her. The next day he went through classes and had the 2v1s. And unless there was a time skip between 49 and 50, this would be the day after that..

Yeah sorry my comment was a bit too obscure. I meant that the characters kept saying things like "Oh no Abel is coming!" or Dent being aggressive, but the overkill training and stuff was only associated with 'central' so there wasn't a scene to really familiarize us with Abel's character like this did. I am glad she is more involved in the plot now because I really like the anti-hero vibes.

interestingly though, with the context so far it would seem that the fate of the ISC is going to hinge on these 6 lives in particular, so it's a fine line between developing firesong into the pivotal weapon and pushing them so hard that they compromise the ultimate objective. don't push them hard enough and the war is most likely lost, or push them over that line, lose their most valuable asset and the war is definitely lost. The key is knowing where the line is.

Or would Abel be thinking that she could take Rei and Shido to team them up with other top ranking cadets (from Sol?) hoping to replicate the effect?

I don't think she reads as cold, I think she reads as off the deep end. Describing her eyes as burning things like that. I think she's started out as tough war fighter doing what's necessary, and its driven her mad.

Hey guys I don't know if this has already been put out, but Bryce actually did a lot of little edits and adds that I noticed in chapters 44-49..only in the 1-50 doc though. We get to see Rei tell Aria to contact Sarah, and a glimpse of a draft of Sarah in combat training with some of Bryces musings. There is also an expanded convo between Viv and Aria at the end of 44 and Rei's 1st fight with Kay is fleshed out a bit. Anyway, enjoy!

Only thing is, though he's used a verbal command to activate Overclock after that, notably in the finale of the team battle against Valor Made. Plus if he'd had a handle on voiceless commands way back then, Id have think it would have been discussed in the text up to this point..

I always thought he used it in the final as an intimidation technique. He is terrifying as it is, now imagine a 6ft+ man with a giant axe barreling towards you while on fire. He wasake the enemies aware so they might trip up and panic.

Chapter 41 has an edit. When Samus asks Senson who broke the desk he now gives a technically it was Selleck answer before being coerced into revealing it was Grant. lol. I love that!

What bothers me about her is that she doesn’t tell Rei why she is seemingly torturing them. I get why she doesn’t but I feel like he would be much more understanding/accepting of what she does if he knew what is at stake. I get that this knowledge would be a huge burden and risky to share but he deserves to know if he is the one suffering her treatment. I hope he eventually demands answers.

I've seen it happen. The guy ended up with a medical discharge because of it. No public consequence for his SM though.

There would rarely be a public consequence outside of a trial. There may be a professional one however. Public consequences reduce faith in the leadership of the troops. The recessions need to be behind closed doors. You praise in public and correct in private.
