Hey all! As some of you have guess, these illustrations are being gathered for a specific purpose, though what that is has yet to be revealed ;)

Thought, though, that it would be cool for you guys to see the process of one of these, so you can get a sense of the work that goes into this. And this is missing the brief that takes a couple hours to come up for each of these.

There's ONE more adjustment to be made (we need to add the laser scars to all these illustrations), but it's pretty much done. Hope you enjoy!

Those are amazing I never even thought about how cool that scene must've been. Now seeing it it totally clicked just how overwhelming it could've been

keshav aghera

i thought the CAD was more like glove than a knuckle.

keshav aghera

Altho the scene is way cooler than i could have imagined

Wilson Lessley

I absolutely love all the illustrations lately

Rusty Barnes

Skinny jeans Rei? Seriously? You're dressing to emphasize how slight you are? Lol jk Looks awesome Bryce & Crew! Can't wait to see more

Marz

That looks sick!! I’ve been loving the artwork and the person who does it has been doing a fantastic job!

What are the white motes supposed to be? They make sense in the star field as stars, but not where they obscure the table, floor or Rei. Interesting decision to go from a glove to knuckle dusters - obviously with the 'corrections' image, this was intentional, but I thought Shedo's initial form was a punch glove. Great picture, but shouldn't the ISCM officers also be on hand? At no point during assignment did he not have at least one other ISCM officer nearby - either when getting onto (and off of) the table, where he faints, or standing in front of Major Connelly

Also - just noticed - that headrest looks uncomfortable - oof! :D

The initial CAD call on his right hand, and the CAD rings on his left wrist, don't correspond to the descriptions in the book. If you look at illustration #3, the CAD call on his right hand is close—except it's supposed to be white between the blue lines on the strike plate, not gray (I think white would be cooler and more striking, no pun intended), and the black metal is only supposed to cover his fingers, not his entire wrist. But the description of the CAD ring on his left wrist in the book is way cooler and more beautiful than the drab anthracite ring pictured here. I don't mind some artistic license but, IMHO, this artistic license is going in the wrong direction. CAD call: "Black steel wrapped around his fingers, forming a grip that pulled them into a loose curl, and a white strike-plate assembled itself over the resulting fist, split by three equal lines of the blue vysetrium. In the end, Rei found himself staring at a contraption not unlike the weighted gloves they sometimes used in combat team training, only instead of pads to cushion the blow, the outer portion was flat metal." CAD rings: "In the form of twin rings fit snuggly at the edge of his shirt sleeves, the CAD was a calm combination of black loops interrupted by a white section that made up a third of the bands. Set between these two parts, ice-blue vysetrium separated the colored steels, narrow partitions of glowing, azure stone. More of the shimmering element decorated the outer surfaces of the white portion, forming a trio of matching, clean diamonds. The Device was—there was no other way to put it—beautiful." Where's the beauty in the plain anthracite/brown circlet depicted in the illustration?

It’s one thing to read it, but seeing it like this really nails home how Rei was starting from zero with Shido.

heaven protect us from "well-actually" posters.

I know the seats in the arena are mentioned to look like carved stone, but are comfortable and mold to suit the person in them. Might be similar? I remember the whole procedure was pretty uncomfortable tho. Worth it 😉

I’d imagine the white motes are the reflection of the star display, since we’re looking down at him. The absence of the officers makes sense as the moment is about Rei, and capturing the feeling of the moment of him receiving his CAD. It makes more sense to present that with the table, the star field, the CAD and Rei, than to make it busy with other stuff, or move him away from the table…. The table is the context of the moment.

I also jut saw in another post, that adding more subjects also does increase the time and cost of the art - and since they are not really necessary for the purpose of this art work, that's fair enough.

Seeing this is awesome! I'm loving the progress compilations as well. Super neat! 😍

Love seeing all of this , keep it coming :) !!!!

Aaron Tufts

I love these! I’m just hoping one day they will do one of Christopher “The Lasher” Lennon in all his glory. Big fan and hope he makes it into the 12-24 of these they do 🤣

Carolyne

Wow! Just Wow the imagery is amazing and evocative! Thank you for sharing.

Rei has come a long way since then. So satisfying to see how he and Shido grows.

Charlie M

These illustrations are really cool but why is Rei so tall/muscular (damn look at those traps) in these early scenes? Is that a deliberate creative decision to be different from the book? He's looking like a 6'+ guy with those long limbs. Also, love seeing how Shido looks as a punching thing.

Cuticle

Rei was in pretty good shape even before Galens. Plus its basically impossible to tell how tall he is in the picture given the lack of reference points. You can have proportionally "long limbs" even when you're short... the ratio of arm/leg length to torso length isn't dependent on your height

TruckWick

I hope they are for a movie....

isaac theodore

Isn't Rei Japanese or half Japanese (if his mom is not)

akalasedge

Finally getting a chance to read through these, a few months late. I love the look of the CAD "altar", plus that gives me a way better mental image of how little Rei started with, weapon-wise.
