Hey all! Just a heads up that 49 is going to have to drop this weekend! I had to eliminate about 3k words cause I wrote myself into a corner, so I'm starting fresh sadly.

Sorry for the delay. It was not expected this this morning when I wanted to post a sneak peek and decided I couldn't.

Better a redo and fix the issue now than have to jump through hoops in a few chapters when you need a way out

Zebrababies

What does it mean to write yourself into a corner?

Justin

It’s all cool man take your time we appreciate the effort

Ryan Berends

One website on google said "There's something known as writing yourself into a corner. This phrase might be used to describe any number of authorial ailments, from the scene that mystifyingly “doesn't work,” to the sinking realization—many chapters in—that your entire plot resolution hinges on something your protagonist can't possibly know about."

AzraelExiled

Been there before Bryce. Take your time and make sure that the story sits right with you!

DarthPineapples

I think he's saying he wrote himself into a position he couldn't get out of easily.

Joshua L Trossbach

So frustrating to hit those walls! Rework is always annoying, and I can't imagine having an audience for it. Good on you for braving it.

Proteus Jones

It's a play off of the saying "painting yourself into a corner". Being that you paint the floor, but do it in such a way that you've backed yourself into the corner furthest from the exit and can't get out. Same thing. Except writing.

Samuel Green

I know this might not appeal to you Bryce but I'd love to see those kind of chapters. I've never tried to write a book because this situation really puts me off. Be good to see the before and after to see how you got out of it.

Charles

We know how you love your options. Also, we don't want any unforeseen circumstances down the road

Georgina Shultz

Corners are dangerous places, best to stay out of them

I have a question about SCT's. You had Cash and Catcher use their abilities right off the bat. I was wondering if that is the case can you charge them up in a warm ups before the match? Or is it bad form to do that like taunting your opponent, or does the system clear all charges at the start of a match?

Sanderling

I suspect any built up charge would discharge as soon as you recall your CAD. Maybe it changes when you get to things like true calls, but for simulated combat that’s how I’ve read it. Part of the reason I’m sure that they have that line about calling your device before instructed. It’s fine to use abilities off the bat though, there are a couple of examples of people starting with a blink step in book 1

Yeah, but not as bad as painting yourself into a real corner after diligently reassuring everyone else painting with you, "Don't worry about it. I know what I'm doing. I'm not going to paint myself into a corner. You all need to make sure you don't paint YOURSELVES into a corner, not me!". Happily, I wasn't the one that said that, my grandfather was. I was a member of the rest of the family that stood there and laughed their but off after seeing him in the corner and being one of the ones he had warned about being sure not to paint THEMSELVES into a corner! No, lie! It was hilarious and we never ever let him live that one down. 🤣 I've had to write things in the past that I had to scrap after putting alot of effort into. So, I understand the frustration you're probably feeling. After reading my story you probably would have PREFERRED to paint yourself into a corner rather than to have written yourself into one. Try to find the silver lining in writing yourself into a corner and having to fix it. It could be something little or ridiculous or something that can be a little tricky to see at first, but there is something. There is ALWAYS something!

Like Samual Green I would love to read a before and after of a “corrected” chapter. It would be interesting on an academic level to see how the process works. Granted I can also understand how a person doesn’t want their “failures” exposed to the world as a person who has had professional work that has had to be serviced after the fact on occasion it’s just not fun. Just remember that people and companies should not be judged by how they handle doing well, but instead by how they handle correcting mistakes that pop up. Sorry you worked so hard to have to scrap the efforts. If you’re happy with the outcome that come from the corrections it’s worth it in the end.

jeffrey robbins

I knew break step could be used right away but warband and blade break are charged abilities that took around 30 seconds of combat to charge. Catcher and Cashe both used theirs in less than 10 seconds into the match and was trying to figure out how that was done.

I've genuinely thought about posting them before, but honestly I don't think it's a good idea. It makes me really happy when the stuff I write is well received, and you guys spoil me, which I'm afraid would make me question my gut to backtrack, and instead try to force through, which I don't think would be the right play in situations like this. I may save the chapters in the future to post at a later point, now that I know some people would like to see them, but for now I got to stay on task with this deadline. Bryce

Samuel Green

I almost suggested saving those chapters and releasing them on here for after the book releases actually. I get it mate and glad you'd consider it - I think part of what appeals to me being a patron is seeing the creative process but honestly you're killing it with the new book so far. Also, I appreciate you taking the time to write back, keep smashing these chapters out mate you're killing it

Linda Thompson

No worries mate.. in your own time 🤪

Scott

It drops when it drops... But, in the famous words of someone...cant remember just who right now.... Cliff hangers are mean!

Abhishek Vora

Just wondering how many chapters are planned in Iron Prince Book 2. And how many of them will get released on patreon?

Polaris

From my understanding, I thought he said something about 52 chapters with all of them released on patreon but the last 10 wouldn’t be released in the public release chapters.

Abhishek Vora

Then we are entering the climax it seems. Amazing 🤩. But sad at the same time since we'll have to wait for the next one for a long time.

Dougie Mitchell

I could be wrong but I think Bryce said he was going straight onto 3 after 2 was finished. I need to go double check because that's in my brain and if I'm wrong ima gonna be so sad

Polaris

This sounds familiar to me as well, or I’m just snorting metric tons of Copium

Sanderling

That’s a good point, maybe it’s not time of combat but nature? 30 seconds of hide and seek is different to 30 seconds of full on combat? Maybe we will learn more with the group getting more powers (can’t wait for Vivs btw)

Wraithmarked Creative

No idea! We're very close to the end of Book 2 now, but I think we've got at least any 4 or 5 chapters to go before it's a wrap!
