I'm sorry I'm only adding a few pages today, friends. This scene ended up needed two rewrites before I got to something I can work with in edits. I don't usually do rewrites, but Grant, and especially Grant and Viv, need to be handled with a LOT of care, so I'm going to be taking this scene and the next chapter one careful step at a time...

So Rei was dumped as a baby, because his parents couldn’t handle dealing with his illness. Aria’s mother is a helicopter parent whose controlling nature has driven her siblings away. Logan’s dad is one of a hand full of people ever stripped of their CAD. What horrible secrets lie behind Cashe’s parents? Inquiring minds want to know. Of the three we have learned about I honestly can’t say who wins the worst parents ever award.

Damn. I kinda get how Logan’s feeling. My grandfather was in a similar situation, in that his dad was, at least in theory, a traitor. As a Gulag guard back in the Stalin years, my great grandfather helped prisoners escape until he got caught and some of those escapees helped him and the whole family nope out of there to the far east. That sort of history was frowned upon in the Soviet Union, so my gramps changed his last name when they decided to go back to the west and almost never talked about his father’s past. Now though, his dad would be considered a hero. So I wonder if there’s more to Logan’s father then we’re initially told? It’s hard to imagine MIND screwing up as badly as the NKVD letting a jew from ukraine guard mostly jewish political prisoners, after all.

Catcher seems to have good supportive family (if I’m remembering correctly), maybe she does too? That can also lead to someone being determined to prove themselves and excel.

I would like to say that I called this over a year ago and asked Bryce about it during the live stream and he played dumb! Proof that I was right in the reddit thread about this chapter where I have a comment linked from 11 months ago. VINDICATION

Love seeing a caricature become a character (not a criticism). I know why he was portrayed the way he was and appreciate it even more now as the promise of fleshing him out starts to pay off.
