The garden party poison incident was explained in episode 10 and 11 with the Garnet Pavilion's former head lady in waiting Fengming (pronounced Fongming) who served former Concubine Ah-Duo Also it wasn't explained well in the anime, I read a bit of the manga and if I interpreted it right (my theory after reading): Maomao first met Lakan when she was very little, he was just beaten with a broom by the old madam again and had some blood on his face and head. Maomao happened to see him a little in the shadows between buildings and when he saw her he reaches out of the darkness with light reflecting off his monocle, saying something like "Come to papa" or "Maomao, it's papa" I don't quite remember. But this is where her reactions come from, accidental trauma from Lakan. My own theory as to why she doesn't like him though is probably because he keeps trying to "take her away" from Luomen who she loves as her father.

Loumen (Mao Mao 's Adoptive Dad) is also Lakan's uncle :) that was revealed last episode during Lakan's backstory with Mao Mao's mother.
