yes you were right Lenny the rappers do write their own raps for every song and they also take part in the producing process sometimes. Fun fact hongjoong made the song selfish waltz 3 yrs ago and only now brought it out to the world and it's too good. also ateez have a producing team called edenery which consists of a few producers the members are close with and they've been writing all their songs since debut so they know the members best and what style would suit them which is why their music is always so unique. the person who sang the black part in selfish waltz is maddox (if im not wrong) ! he’s a soloist & a producer under kq. he works on almost every, if not all, ateez & xikers’ song along with edenary (ateez’s main producing team), hongjoong & mingi. he usually does the background/hidden vocals & does alot of layering vocals in ateez’s songs. the most notable song you can hear him in is halazia. he is such a good vocalist & producer he just makes every song he lays his hands on go from 100 to like 1000

They don't vibe with Exo, it is normal cause it's a matter of taste (especially one of them I prefer to abstain from).....their style is to much their style not everyone loves , what is and is not a blessing .....
