The edgy boy has arrived, nothing like an evil form to make Asher hotter XD.
After Asher sees his party annihilated by adam and seeing as he tortures them through their magh souls(fragments of adam) Asher gives up and accepts to become the last vessel.

Many situations made Asher come to the breaking point, the good deeds he did have come to bite him in the ass, as the places and people that he saved were punished due to his actions, is not an exaggeration to say that due to that a lot of people in Arcadia that were their friends or acquaintances are now either dead or blaming Asher for their misery. As you know, Asher was already disliked and treated badly as a kid for being different as a non-magh user, but when he became the hero, the savior of Leila's prophecy, he found a purpose, he found a worth in himself that he could not see before. He could be useful, he could be needed, he could be liked and loved. And then when he discovers his role of Savior is a fake prophecy made by syzygy to control him, that both of his original parents are psychopaths with genocidal tendencies, and that none of them see asher as he is but just a defective copy of another person, Kyrios... well his world comes down in pieces, this new worth he found on himself, it was just an illusion, he isn't even that strong without the Heaven's key and Ixbal is gone (she leaves asher's party and joins Adonai), he is utterly emotionally destroyed and he doesn't know who he is anymore.

And thus Adam explains to Asher, that the world has done nothing but wrong to him, and it does not deserve to be saved, but the people he does care about, they do deserve his grace. The cycle of rebirth is the natural course of things, trying to fight it, is just escaping from the inevitable and he does promise he and his loved one will meet again in the next universe. Is this promise real? who knows, but Adam knows exactly what Asher needs to hear, and so Asher accepts and makes the most egoistic choice...He sacrifices the world for his own happiness and thus he becomes the devil.

Iblis retains memories from Asher's life and some aspects of his personality but once he uses Asher's soul to open the Alpha Gate, well Asher is officially dead. This form of Iblis is called Fallen, so as you might deduce, he has a second form Called Requiem that I will show you later.

As for the other sketches, you can see how he is starting the ritual of universal reset, combining the 2 lances into the key (ouroboros) to the final gate. What happens next is that the Holy world tree emerges from the crust and reveals its true form, the tree of eternal return, an eldritch entity fabricated by adam to collect the souls and his vessel to traverse universes. obviously, I want to note that these are rough sketches and thus they aren't final but I will show you how these things evolve in the next posts!

You definitely said that things would end on a BITTERsweet note, but this looks very bleak. I mean, it would be both unexpected of you and genre-atypical if the world would stay the way it was. But this is also a positive as it gives me hope that the cycle of rebirth and Adam won't go out unscathed of this either. Although I just had a thought that the cycle of rebirth might survive this particular part of the story. With malicious cycles to escape being both in Sleepwalkers (individual reset) and Arcadia Nights (reoccurring planet-wide apocalypses) we might need some more cycles of escalating scale for that third project you hinted at.

HAHA, no don't worry, this is not the ending, but it will feel like it. After a shot of Iblis starting the rebirth ritual, we see everyone trying to escape the location being destroyed as Adonai closes his eyes thinking he is about to die, we get a black screen. Suddenly you the player wake up, and you are Adonai back in the exodus (past), you then play through a bit before the Exodus calamity and see it all unfold quickly. After that nightmare of a vision, you wake up again as Adonai in an unfamiliar house and he becomes the protagonist for a bit, Ixbal and Hunna are convinced that Asher can be brought back to this world and they have the plan to stop Adam, so they insist that Adonai regroups the party in order to save Asher, Adonai hesitates but ultimately complies and you see him try to convince every character (which won't be easy). After that, you go fight Iblis, exorcise him, and try to summon Asher's soul back to his body but it is up to him if he wants to come back or not. After a sequence of asher talking to the zeitgeists (the ghosts of time), you take a choice between 2 options, each one with a different ending, and depending on which one you choose, Asher comes back and the story continues having some side content, and the last dungeons and boss fights to lead to the real ending. That is basically the structure. Both ending options will have a bittersweet feeling cuz they aren't perfectly happy but still a bit hopeful. As for the third project, Dead Eye Syndrome, the plan is: it is the earliest in the timeline( DES->Sleep Walkers-> Arcadia Nights->DES) but it will probably deal with Arcadia's Canon ending Consequences, most likely Kadmon-related things and Entropy itself which might raise the question "but how can that be if DES Happens before?" well... Arcadia's ending is what puts everything in motion, is like a loop of events that trigger the next... but we are getting ahead of ourselves here, we can discuss it when the time is right ;).

Wow, that is some intense cyclical time-fuckery right there. The thing with the zeitgeists is interesting to me because before I knew that Ashers element is Light, I thought it was Time, because the direction of time is dependent on the increase in entropy and thus opposed to Adam somehow.

AbsoAlex

you know what? that's a really interesting way to see it, I might or might not implement it in the lore nature of both dark and light primordial elements since it could make sense that darkness could represent non-existence and devoid of time, while the light could be what creates the flow of time, being the fastest thing in the universe and thus creating the concept of existence... I think it's a really interesting way to put it and connect it to entropy too. As an easter egg the Zeitgeists look like the 3 protagonists of each entry in the trilogy, The one who greets Asher is Kyrios, and the other 2 are Aion ( Fer from sleepwalkers) and Abel (Xavier from Dead Eye syndrome)

DREAMPIPE

Ahhhhhh such cool art!!

DREAMPIPE

i did read it actually! i've truly loved all the designs and lore, i've always been a huge fan of the classic fantasy jrpg stories and designs and it's been a delight to see you pull together all the best parts - i can see the sorely missed ps1 - ps3 era flavour when seeing it all~ i remain looking forward to each new bit you reveal!

AbsoAlex

Aww T-T Thanks so much Dream, it means a lot you say all that cuz I wanted to evoke what that era of Jrpgs made me feel when I was young, and I'm glad it is coming across. I'm also happy you have been finding it interesting since that is also very important to me. Thanks <3
