Ixchel is a Mayan goddess known as the Rainbow Woman, she is also associated with fertility, medicine, the moon, and the element of Water since she was venerated as a rain goddess which also had a really destructive side that could cause catastrophes like floods.

Of course, I wanted to incorporate most of those elements into her, so, for example, the water-filled ring in her back symbolizes the moon and its effect on the oceans. the wing's big blade on her sides has an old lady face sculptured on them since Ixchel was also depicted as an old woman which was sometimes associated with its destructive side. Of course, the translucent RGB color effect is a reference to her title as a rainbow woman, and the wings also are supposed to look like falling water in a Mayan-stylized kinda way. Some of the Mayan hairstyles were really extravagant for high hierarchies so I decided to incorporate that and mix it with the animal head motif of the Nephilim, in this case, the rabbit since is closely associated with Ixchel, I'm guessing also connected to the moon aspect and fertility.

Of course, I wanted Ixchel to be classy and elegant, kinda inspired by the iconic vibes of Shiva on FFX.

Tomorrow I was gonna show more side characters but I actually got to design Itzam Cabain this weekend (the god of Otto's people and Nephilim of Earth) So that will be tomorrow's post and then we will go with side characters and other designs next week :)

If there is something particular you would like to see on Patreon please let me know!, sometimes assembling these art layout images I don't really put all the variations of the designs or sometimes I have sketches or midway shots that i don't include, so let me know if you are interested in those.

Oh, I really like her vibe. Partly because water is my favourite magical element. But also because in my head she started immediately moving and using her wings as weapons. Not really in a "bombastic summon that demolishes your enemies" way but more in a "cool ally with mysterious origins joining the party" kinda way. Which also makes me wonder how the Summons would work in your vision of the game? Are they powerful single attacks that cost a lot of Magh/need to be charged or is it more like that Leila can channel them for a limited time/amount of turns? Sorry if I hit you unprepared with those kind of questions, but I like to talk about game mechanics. Probably also because I tend to come up with game mechanics before the lore for my game ideas. ^^'

AHHHHHHHH QUEEN! This is my new fave lol. She said gay rights. Giving me the FFX Shiva energy. I love love love this design. I love Mayan and Aztec designs and architecture and culture, so I'm living for this. Up and down. Give me more!!! And yes, give me ALL the art. Where can I buy the art book lol, I need EVERY sketch from every step of the design process. Your work inspires and excites me.

hahaha Thanks so much,! hopefully, she will be as iconic! I definitely have intentions to make the art book and thanks to all of you supporting me I might be able to create all of what I need to make it :)

no worries! and I'm thankful you like her! I have in consideration those options, I do however like how the summons was implemented in ffX so probably it would be that the fight goes to be Leila and the summon against the enemy for a limited time (which given the fighting mechanics might really feel like you are playing as the summon) or for a number of moves until it ends in the ultimate attack being the iconic one. Given how powerful the summons is, the cost of summoning might be either complete mp depletion (or half of it) for Leila for the rest of the battle, maybe Leila losing a whole turn, or something else. is more a question of balance and the cost being coherent.
