Concept Art 34: Adonai pt3 (Patreon)

A lot of you might already know much about Adonai at this point if you have been reading the post descriptions of course, however, I'll take this opportunity to update and expand on his backstory a bit.

Initially, Adonai was planned to experience a memory restart every cycle, this was to keep him from realizing the truth of the cycles, Adam and the Kyrios clones. My objective with this was to avoid the aftermath of an Adonai and Adam confrontation so this option fixed that, but why? you might ask. I felt Adam would either think the situation was a nuisance and would opt to kill Adonai if he were to oppose him or disobey and of course I cannot let that happen to my Baddie.

However, after a lot of thinking, this idea has been discarded, mainly cuz it makes the overall plot needlessly complex and Arcadia is already convoluted, so this measure was taken to smooth out some aspects of the story that felt unnecessary. The other main reason I discarded said option is because it deprives Adonai of agency and also kinda nullifies the weight of his actions, in a sense the memory loss was an excuse for Adonai to not seem so evil, but I think it defeats the point of his character and his Arc.

So then, what happens in Adonai's backstory?
After Adonai experiences the first cycle, he isn't sure if the individual he met is Kyrios as Adam tries to persuade him into thinking it is just a coincidence, not to mention the first Iblis/Kyrios might be defeated by the Nephilim this time, so Adonai accepts Adams version of things because it is a less painful option and his denial starts.

In the second cycle, he starts to get suspicious when the same individual that looks like Kyrios shows up 100-200 years later, and this time is accompanied by Ixbal. Adonai, intrigued, sends Huna to investigate their origin since Ixbal's presence is a giveaway that something strange is happening and, besides that aspect, the only person with the technology to clone humans (other than himself) is Sophia, but that's impossible because she is dead... so who is behind these Kyrios clones and is his son's soul really inside that vessel? 

However, this new information might not be enough for Adonai to reconsider things and distrust Adam, blindly believing the cosmic horror will keep his side of the bargain. Huna, Sick of seeing Adonai in the dark grasp of Adam's manipulation, decides to show him the truth in her records. At this moment, Adonai realizes that Adam lied about the Necropolis incident, since not only Adam was directly involved in the misery and extermination of the last human colony but, Adonai, under the Dark entity's control, assassinated his own family.

As the new iblis is finally formed (using the 2nd Kyrios as a vessel), the Nephilim try to interfere once again, rushing to stop the demon, yet this time Adam won't fall for the same trick twice. He realizes the connection the Nephilim and Kyrios have and uses it to possess the artificial gods, turning them into weapons of mass destruction. Adonai sees the world he helped create shatter into pieces just as he realizes that his reality has been nothing but a lie.

And so Adonai decides to stop Iblis, which means killing Kyrios. The afflicted man carries his son's body to land and decides to confront Adam. Adonai furiously exposes all the lies and deception the cosmic entity has been fabricating but, Adam barely shows interest in the broken man's feelings:
And? what if I didn't tell you all? You didn't need to know something that would only halt your utility and potential. I never lied about our contract, my promise was real but, if you badly desire to oppose me in order to satisfy that pathetic sense of justice of yours, I'll gladly show you the fate that lies for useless tools like you- Says the crimson cross as he crushes Adonais heart from his insides, reminding him of the extent of his power and their connection (the Adamic fragment ).

Adonai understands the gravity of the situation and decides to lower his head and accept "Adam's mercy", knowing well he had no chance to defeat him. At this point, it was clear that Adonai was only pretending to agree and follow Adam's commands. Adam was aware that Adonai wasn't loyal nor trustworthy anymore yet, he wasn't worried at all, since he has foreseen that the broken man's hunger for revenge would only end up benefiting his plans, and with Sysygy's existence confirmed on the chess board it was only matter of time these two pieces would cross paths.:
"Let the kids play war"

In the three next cycles, Adonai acts his role to perfection as he investigates more about Adam, The existence of syzygy and also decides to change the system of selection of the midnight blades with intentions to use them against Adam, fighting fire with fire, planning ahead of time and waiting for the right moment to frustrate Adam's plans forever. During these 3 cycles, Adonai tries to approach the three next Kyrios iterations but, his warning always falls on deaf ears leading to the man killing his son 3 more times to stop it from becoming a monster yet again.

It is only in the sixth cycle that things change: Adonai, now knowing where Syzygy and the Kyrios clones are being made, decides to intercept them and kill the clone before it is born, also looking for the Ark of Anima (the server with the human souls) to destroy it so it has no use to syzygy or Adam anymore. Syzygy, Trying to protect the soul of Kyrios from Adonai, orders ixbal to escape with the new baby but Huna tries to frustrate their efforts, as the Twin android fatally damages ixbal making her crashland on the surroundings of Elnid'oh. After many years of searching with no success, Ixbal's signal was never found again. Adonai and Huna could only assume both of them did not survive the landing, focusing on waiting for the next iteration to Appear since Syzygy didn't take lightly the past intrusion and increased the security in exodus, making it almost impossible to access the higher heaven.

Against any odds, Ixbal and the baby survived the landing, and thanks to Father Isaiah, the baby grew up healthy and strong. Meanwhile, ixbal was auto repairing herself in sleep mode for the next 20 years, hidden in the church's deposit room. Asher, being raised independently from the doctrine of Syzygy, becomes the start of a new cycle, one where everything changes.
