Concept Art 38: Ravik (Patreon)
Content
After Asher's exile at the beginning of the story, Ravik feels all kinds of emotions toward our protagonist: he feels abandoned, betrayed, and resentful. Ravik's dream was to become a knight of the Durashonia imperial army, but his severe injuries inflicted by the reapers (loss of the right arm and his blind eye) have destroyed any chance for him to be accepted into the military forces. If Asher had kept his promise to Ravik, things would have been different, and for that, he can't help but blame it all on Asher.
When he is at his lowest point, Adonai shows up to offer him his dream back by becoming a Midnight blade, and through this action, also saves Elnid'oh from being Excommunicated because of the violation of the sacrifice tradition and also the destruction of the holy advent tree. As part of the revindication of Elnid'oh, the mayor's daughter (Lena) and the new Midnight Blade Ravik, who now represents the Church of Ekpyrosis, get engaged to show the town's unbreakable ties to the church and their devotion to god, Sol Hunab ku.
The resentment and jealousy that Ravik has for Asher are the perfect catalysts for Elaios (the curse) to take over the man. While the merge isn't complete, Ravik is no longer himself but rather an expression of all the negative emotions he felt these last months that the curse is merely amplifying. Glimpses of consciousness shine here and there, but it's like Ravik is struggling to regain full agency of his body and mind, losing himself to the curse and the anger. In the depths of his heart, his feelings for his childhood friend never perished, but what would it take to finally accept them? to admit he liked him all along? Is it too late for them? Would Asher still like him after seeing the man he has become? Will he forgive him for getting engaged to Lena? Even as Ravik claims to hate him, he can't stop thinking of him.
