Excellent beginning! I didn't know anything about Pikachu, except what he looked like & that he's electric. I enjoyed learning of his early interactions with Ash!

God I do hope this wins a poll one day. Pokemon is my fav thing ever. I've been a fan since I was 7 (24 now) and I got a Game Boy advanced for my birthday with fire red, been collecting ever since (tho I did fall off the anime around gen 6), pokemon is just a huge influence and part of my life. But the Kanto and Johto part of the anime holds a special place in my heart cause it's what I would watch with my grandma, when I was a kid my grandma would record the episodes that played on her VHS machine along with looney toons and scooby doo, and every Friday she would pick me up from school and I'd spend the weekend with her watching the VHS tapes that she recorded or if she found VHS or DVDs of pokemon she would buy them. I have so many fond memories of this show.

Also the pokemon flying off toward the rainbow at the end is Ho-Oh the legendary of gen 2 (this part of the anime takes place in Kanto which is gen 1) so it was kinda a teaser towards the next games. Also don't dis the poke rap lol, it's a certified banger lol

The reason Misty's hand is in a weird position is, in the japanese version she slaps Ash and the hand's position is after the slap.

Jesus, OK here is a mission. But I’m glad you’re on it

You are correct in remembering that Pikachu is exceptionally powerful....but only Ash's as seen here where he takes out an entire flock of Spearow in one attack....and there's really no reason given why other than "because the plot said so." This is a kids show after all lol.

I hope this gets picked as daily show! Thank you Chrome for once again sponsoring a blast from the past!!

Pokémon is actually the first anime that I remember watching, long before I knew what anime even was, the series is a lot of fun, and pretty much what made Pikachu the franchises mascot, only 151 Pokémon it's funny how small that seems now, we're currently sitting at over 1,025, and pretty much most of the key creators of the franchise are still involved near 30 years later, I really hope it can eek out a win at the next poll, it will feel like another One Piece like journey as you go, there's so many fantastic characters and places to see. 4Kids handled the dub for the first several seasons, so there are some questionable changes at times, but the voice actors make it fun, and I know you'll enjoy the puns.

Yea, that was a couple years ago, and you still never know where these Japanese companies might strike... I've certainly had plenty of go-rounds with them. 😡

Like many here, Pokemon was my introduction to Anime, before I even knew what Anime was. I can vividly remember the day I rented a VHS containing three episodes of the Pokemon show. From our local Video store when I was 5, in fact that may very well have been the first video I ever rented. Also while based on the games, the show is quite different from the experience of the Gameboy games were grew up on. For example Pikachu typically wasn't available as a starter. You had a choice of Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur (personally I chose Squirtle, lost my save and chose Charmander which I levelled up to a Level 100 Charizard), Pikachu didn't become a starter until Pokemon Yellow. Which was released after the success of the show, which gave you Pikachu as your default starter. And allowed you to find the other three in game. The part that is true to game though, is Professor Oak's grandson being a dick. Which is why a lot of people took to naming him embarrassing and dirty names. (Personally I just named him Gary, because I hated Gary in the show and wanted the honour of kicking his ass myself).

Holy shit this was a blast of nostalgia. I used to get home from school and watch this and DBZ back in the 90s as they were airing. They along with Batman the animated series were my favorite shows as a kid.

Seeing episode 1 really takes me back. You had to be there growing up watching the episodes and rewatching em on VHS.

Oh I've been waiting for this!

Man I really hope this wins in the pole after Baki, it would be another one piece like journey. I'm an old man and I love pokemon myself 😁

Pokemon came out on US Television exactly 26 years ago today. Perfect Timing 👌

It's a 2 Step Proccess. There's a thread for nominations. That's where you suggest a series and like to show your support. Once that's done the highest support series got into a poll and we cast voting. Whoever wins the poll is what we end up watching. Currently we are not nominating, but I believe Curtis said expect one soon.

Oh I understand that so well. Talking about this makes me so nostalgic

As a yellow version owner FUCK Pikachu all I wanted was a Raichu but my Pikachu the only one you can get in the game thought he was from the anime and refused to evolve the. fuck. Well I refused to use him not only did I not release him but I banished him to a PC box that was just him in it he hated me afterwards

Heavenly Demon

So idk if anyone mentioned this but there is a theory ash is in a coma. It happened when he got that big shock and saw the golden bird. . Everything onward is just a dream his having in his coma state . That's why he never ages and other things that happened. It's cause it's all a coma dream
