The Pokemon anime is generally a slice of life series early on, partly because the Gameboy games were pretty basic, we do get some more ongoing plots in later seasons though when the games they're based on get more complex and story focused, but generally they do keep the series simple enough to jump into. Believe it or not though the new series is pretty story focused. I nearly forgot about the GS ball lol, it's the whole reason the Orange Islands arc started, but it's barely a thing lol (we'll talk about the behind the scenes of that later, it's funny), I did say before this arc is basically the anime staff stalling until they can adapt Generation 2 of the games, but moments like this do really kind of show that, the arc is still decent fun, but you can tell they're dragging their feet a little.
