This is the first time we see there's more to the spirits than just "oh! Evil ghost to beat!" Yokai in jp culture are often tragic monsters. Yeah, they do bad stuff and hurt people. But they often are lost spirits driven to madness in death by a tragic life experience. What dandadan does so well is hit all the feels. Romance? Yes. Humor? Yes. Thrills? Oh yeah, great fight here. Even a little taste of depression. Now we wait for terror... Edit: btw, turbo granny is based on a real yokai myth. Tho it's mostly a fictionalized version. The real myth is that sometimes when you're speeding through fast tunnels in Japan, an old woman will knock on your window and be running right alongside you. But 100 kilo granny is a prank yokai in japan, mostly harmless. So this character in the show is mostly new.

Imagine telling One Piece fans you'd hear Luffy say "Son of a Bitch!" some day haha.
