They actually did a very similar story before this in a side episode where Ritchie and Sparky went back in time with Celebi to save an old Nurse Joy's childhood friend from a landslide.

To be fair, when I was a kid, I used to laugh my ass off when Brock was hitting on every girl and getting his ear pulled by Misty and Max. But now as a grown-ass adult, it does feel extremely creepy sometimes.

THE GOOSH!

Yea, as a kid, I probably would've laughed at that, too. But now, it's just so creepy and cringe.

Honestly my biggest criticism of the episode really is just how they went about having the time travel happen, like, you just had an episode with Celebi 2 episodes ago, you know, the one that acknowledged it's a time traveling guardian, why not just have it show up again instead of having that locket be sent through time? I actually don't have an issue with the old woman wanting to stay in her home town, I've known people like that who are perfectly happy where they are, I like to see new things so it' s not really for me, but to each their own.
