Like most legendaries they make movie centered around them. The movie destiny deoxys going through it origin You dont have to watch them because most of them aren’t canon to the story.

Other than a special case in Black and White, every movie before Sun & Moon is canon but they generally don't crossover with the main series too much besides movies 1 and 8.

Starting this episode Pokemon has a new director after not having one for the last 11 episodes which is probably why some of them felt a little more off than usual.

I honestly really like this 2-parter, though in general I do tend to like whenever Pokemon focuses more on their sci-fi or the mystical elements. You were right about the DNA connection by the way, here's its Pokedex description "The DNA of a space virus underwent a sudden mutation upon exposure to a laser beam and resulted in Deoxys. The crystalline organ on this Pokémon's chest appears to be its brain.". The version of Deoxys in these episodes is a lot more... friendly than the game version, in the games Deoxys comes from a meteor every 1,000 years basically trying to wipe out all life, it's actually came pretty close at least twice in the past. It's a space virus... it just kind of... hates everything, it doesn't give a reason, and that honestly works well to give it that sort of unsettling alien invader feel, I'll need to share some of the short animations Gamefreak's released on him when you're back, they're really good. I have Nothing against the more sympathetic version in this episode though, it's still fun, but I like unknowable horrors sci-fi stories as well.
