A lot of reaching out going on... From Tohru, from Momiji, etc. Let's see if Akito has genuinely pulled her head out of her ass enough to accept it!

This was such a tense couple of episodes, and I always get a little teary-eyed after she falls off that cliff and that inner monologue about the good times having to end, but also the scary and bad times as well. Everything with Tohry and Kyo just breaks my heart. You can see her growth coming to terms with her mom's passing, and her accepting her wanting to be with Kyo doesn't mean she isn't going to forget her mother; it's just accepting it's going to be in a different way. I get where Kyo is coming from, he's still stuck in his own fears, that he pushes her away. It just sucks for something like this to happen for him to get out of his own head. Akito has always struggled with me when it comes to empathy for others as well. You see her psycho bitch of a "mother" and then her Dad while better than Ren, just filled her head about what a special person she is because of god and that everyone will love her. I can see where her delusional headset came from, but at the same time, how horrible her actions are, and you really don't get a glimpse of anything redeeming towards the end, which is the big drawback. She needs someone like Tohru to help break out of that toxic cycle, someone who doesn't see Akito as someone special or a god, just as a regular woman like her on equal terms. But Akito has to be the one to make that change, no one can do it for her, so hopefully after all this she can take that small step forward.

EXCELLENT breakdown of Akito; I agree all the way! I gotta say, the writing in this show is god tier! This is one of the best, most emotional and engaging trips I’ve ever been on!

Between this and Clannad are two of the best Shojo around, and when we finish next month, I'll explain why one edges out the other one just a bit more for me personally.

Okay, but if the cliff crumbling away, preventing Akito from being forgiven when she hasn't done anything to deserve it yet, doesn't feel like a literal act of God, I don't know what does. AND!!! The foreshadowing!!! In one of their very first scenes together, Shigure tells her it's dangerous to be camping out on these mountains because the cliffs are unstable and tend to have landslides. Love it.

Hmm, I’ll be interested to hear your take on that. Pending the conclusion of Fruits Basket, I know which way I’m leaning. 😊
