He may be likeable, he may have a bit more self-awareness than his crew, but at the end of the day Tony is just an animal, a creature of pure destructive instinct.

Tony 100% was going to do that the moment he saw Irina with Zellman. He must have had some major feeling of cuckery going on in his mind that his ego could not handle. I can see Tony using his justification of "I just wanted her to lead a life free of the male dominated criminal world" and sure, maybe that is part of it, but the awkwardness between him and Irina when he first saw her locked in that this arrangement would eventually get Tony to crack. The song he was listening to is what ultimately awakened his subconcious and made him want to enact his assertion of dominance.
