This episode didn't really... explain Darkrai properly unfortunately or do a good job of showing him off... he's a mythical Pokemon, and Cresselia is a legendary Pokemon, which basically mean they're one of a kind for the most part (it's a bit complicated to explain this early), but that's why they were so surprised to see them, the anime hasn't really done a good job at this point of making it clear legendary pokemon are unique beings that aren't like just an entire species, most of them are either godlike beings or manmade horrors usually, it's probably because they're assuming viewers have at least a little bit of knowledge from the games or cards given how big they are. Darkrai's event from the original Diamond & Pearl games is actually pretty memorable, and he's been the main antagonist of a few of the best games in the franchise as well (there's been both good and evil versions of him just to be clear), he did also get his own film during this gen, and I think it was one of the best in the franchise so... thankfully this wasn't all we had for his anime interpretation lol.
