You know I don't like how people refer to when naruto starts talking to his enemy's and try to change them as "talk no jutsu" it's not that it's naruto's trait as kakashi said " naruto has the ability to change people's hearts and feelings and make friends from them by just talking to them" that's what it truly is

Curtis I think i know why you and a lot of us feel more sympathetic towords Obito. Its because when we got first introduced to Obito it was very emotional, powerful and meaningful for the story. How he died giving kakashi his sharingan. He changed the character of that little prick kakashi completely into the cool guy we came to love. His devotion to his friends, him always coming late to meetings because he's always at Obitos grave remenecing and losing track of time and of course the bell test and the speech at the end of it came to be only due to Obito. Kabuto on the other hand was a bad guy for no reason for the first 500 episodes and then he got some tragic backstory. Its kind of in opposite order.

I think the sympathy is because he was such a cute kid, the power of a backstory lol. Plus I dont think anyone likes to see adults taking advantage of kids (Madara/Obito)

I personally like the reason obito gains such sympathy from viewers like you Curtis is because in a lot of ways he’s painted as the “evil” Naruto. As a child he grows up just like naruto, same background, same drive and attitude towards life and others. The huge divergence is where Naruto found jiraiya, obito was found by Madara. So in a sense you feel crappy cause we know what he could’ve become and how a good soul was takin by a great evil. Idk just my thoughts lol.

That’s the thing with so many Naruto villains. So many of them have their backstories shown and why they turned out the way they did, and half the time a small part of you understands their motives. Like obviously infinite tsukiyomi is not the way to go, but you can definitely understand why someone like Obito might think it is

And the key main difference being Naruto didn't obsessively love anyone. Because alpha males don't. Beta males do. Obito=beta. Don't get mad, I still like him.
