I had NO idea what the hell was going on here! The booze explained why it was happening, but there's a WHOLE BUNCH of wonder about what it all means!!

Don't worry, you're not supposed to understand what's going on in this episode yet ^^

Still wanna see why he left his family before his wife died, been so long since I've seen the series I've forgotten

Soulley

This will make more sense later on. This episode is kinda confusing.

Hexigoon

Oh boy, next episode is awesome!

ArchmageVengard

I always liked the placement of this episode, offers foreshadowing nicely without spoiling

King Black

Yeah this is one of the best recap episodes in anime another is in Kill La Kill

WHOLESOME DEUS

Curtis just got pegged without even asking for it

Liesmith

Finally, a 'clip show' episode that's equally confusing for fans and newcomers. This episode is very fun to watch after you've already seen the series, so I recommend a re-watch after the final episode. Also after the final episode: the bloopers (available on YouTube). Don't watch them early, though, they're spoilery as hell!

Nick

The words at the top were the lyrics to the song playing, I'm sure you figured it out though lol

Hi O'laverly

Welcome to the drunken Hohenheim Clipshow episode. Enjoy the next 24 minutes or so of your life.

Oty Safiry

This is kind of the breaking point episode i think as from here on things keep escalating.

Phillip Ribbink

Damn the years have not been kind to Granny Pinako. It's a wonder her and Hohenheim were old drinking buddies if this happens every time he gets drunk. Dreams like that are enough to turn a man off booze.

When I re-watched the series, this episode makes more sense.

Your final thoughts are very close to what is actually going on. I recommend rewatching this episode after you finish the series. It will make more sense.

Matt Kelso

The little girl who asked him to dance with her in the beginning was a younger version of his wife. You also saw the teenage version and adult version talk to him of course. A confusing, yet beautiful episode. All will make sense in time though. Can't wait for the next one!

This is definitely an episode you should schedule yourself to rewatch once you've finished the series - the retrospective look at it should give you a lot of "oh yeah wow shit" moments.

Slice O Potatoe

I like using the arrow keys to repeatedly hear the t and sh sounds at the end of your words before the episode starts. Very satisfying.

Caffeinated King

As others said, it'll make more sense later on with more context. But to put it simply yes the episode was very much Hohenheim talking with parts of himself and the dealing with the memories he has with some fascinating implications that are for you to think about. The episode also serves as a good excuse to give you a reminder of the journey so far, what they're fighting for and what it all means going forward into the coming episodes. On another note, as you've seen so far, eyes play quite a big part in the symbolism of the show, between the Ishbalans and the military and even other things, it's an interesting theme for the story that I suggest just keeping in the back of your mind when watching.

GoldArthur

This is a recap episode, yet, it's one my favorite episodes of the series.

Ryan M

yeah, this was a really clever way to write a recap episode

Matthew Budgell

I recommend watching this episode stoned. Quite the experience :p
