These early adventures are really fun! Although I'm annoyed with myself for not having even a shadow of a guess as to who the old coot really was!

THIS CRAZY OLD COOT TURNED OUT TO BE PRETTY COOL... AND FAMILIAR! - Avatar #5

Lol it really got you

I'm not sure how much of that "pushing limits" is fact vs assumption; I haven't watched or read a lot of interviews, but people were saying this before any interviews came out. It feels more like the show just has an air of maturity to it, and you see some of it as early as the third episode of the first season. Its story builds on itself as it goes. The stakes raise. There's not a particular line where it changes from nice to gritty.

I never thought there was a chance that the king was over 100 years old and just so happen to be his crazy friend from over 100 years ago

Daniel Salva

Don't worry Curtis,it didn't even cross my mind that he was boomy lol

Middleman850

When I first watched it after a couple test it thought it was going to be Bumi’s descendent not Bumi himself

The Gimpster 101

I ain't the brightest knife in the crayon box so I didn't catch on to him being Bumi when I first saw this

Lewd Angel

Cabbage Guy is like the Ramen Guy of Avatar

Koala Banana

Bumi. One that has eaten the fruit and tasted its mysteries.

V_VMat

The flashback was first warning for me and the king's crazy antics and smile were dead giveaway.

FrisbeeDude42

“The strongest earthbender” well I don’t know about that, there’s another strong contender after all :) and I don’t know if anyone has told you this so far, but each bending style is based off of a different martial art, interesting to look at the show that way :)

Chris

Rip Ride Rockit! Do you remember which song you picked, Curtis? :)

Chris Peacock

I always put that other one above Bumi, but not very much above. I guess Bumi saying “I’m the 2nd most powerful earth bender you’ll ever see” doesn’t have the same ring to it. 😂

Seriously feel like I am reliving a part of my childhood with an old funny man! Curtis I hope you don't take this as a insult, but you remind me of my grandfather. He and I used to watch anime and cartoons like Avatar (ATLA) all the time. It was by far my most prized memories with him. Thanks for the amazing throwbacks!

THE GOOSH!

Hmmm.... I don’t. It was several years ago, but dopey stuff like that is typically the things I do remember... it was definitely one of the classic rock songs...

THE GOOSH!

Not an insult AT ALL! It’s an honor to be associated with a cool memory like that!

Matthew Zeller

Don't worry Curtis, I didn't realise it was Bumi either. I think you will love how they bring everything together in this show. I wouldn't say there's an obvious tonal shift but things definitely start getting more serious, of course while staying fun :)

Chris

I didn't see the Bumi reveal coming when I first watched the show either. But I was also 9 years old when I first watched this episode

WhateverIFeelLike

Ah foaming mouth guy and cabbage guy two of the best background characters ever

interested party

I don't remember if i suspected it. but I was sure you were going to guess any second. i'm glad the surprise was there for you. it was fun watching you realise who he was when aang said

Tony Gilbert King

So obvious in hindsight but I'm sure very few people actually figured it out beforehand

SilversLyfe

Foam guy had me crying the first time I saw this. Not sure that Curtis noticed him in this reaction

Nick Heiney

And so the Legend of the Great Cabbage Man has begun.

That banter about the rooms felt very Monty Python-esque. Did anyone else feel that way?

1yoyoyo2

You know, there were dark elements even this early. Just very well hidden. I mean, episode 3 dealt with genocide. Literal genocide.

Ali6B

My fucking CABBAGES

Serra Lear

I remember the first time I saw this episode, the instant Aang chose to fight the King, instantly said, you shouldn't have done that. Was never proven more right lol

AceOfSerberit

the Bumi reveal took me with as much as surprise sa you

Master Zed

only when i heard his laugh i knew who he is XD
