None of it is pretend. The Major loves every aspect of war, from victory to defeat. Alucard being the way he is just makes the whole thing infinitely more interesting. Also, fun fact, the background sounds that come on when the soldiers are shooting Alucard and he gets all his arms in the air, they used the screams of babies to make that sound.

To answer your question Rip Van Winkle is a woman. Schrodinger even refers to her as Frau Van Winkle.

The weapon Alucard pierced Van Winkle with was blunt on the edge sylinder-form, which means that the force needed to pierce SLOWLY through the skin, that has amazing stretchy properties, is pretty damn high. The pain she would have to go through while the blunt weapon still hasn't gone through must be out of this world.
