It is worth remembering that the first robot that rebelled in this story, rebelled and killed his owner because the owner was planning to decommission him. So the robot didnt want to die and was willing to kill to save his own life.

Also, humanity did at no point face extinction. The robots took human territories, but the humans got to live there under robot rule... after humanity went to war with them.
