I wanted to believe he was a good dude and things would work out well for Taiga, but now I have some serious doubts!

The reason the teacher went crazy about the red thread. Is because in many East Asian cultures (including Japan) there is a concept called the Red Thread of Fate. Which is the idea that two people who are meant to fall in love and live happily ever after. Are bound to each other by an invisible red thread. So by cutting the thread, the teacher who's single at thirty and clearly worried about it is a pretty big deal. She's probably got a mother, who's constantly asking when she's gonna be able to see her granddchildren.

LOL! Ah, that explains it... I actually kinda like the desperate “old” spinster! 😄😄

Re-watching this really has me seeing Ami in a new light. She's probably the most interesting to me this time.

I won't spoil anything for the next episode, but I always find it interesting to see how people read these episodes where you first meet Taiga's dad. Which side of the line they fall on. Because, yes, Taiga can be the type to hold grudges (over sometimes petty things) but Ryuji has his prejudices too, being so inclined to believe that a terrible, unreliable father is better than no father at all. I always leaned more in that direction of being suspicious of Taiga's father... not being so quick to give him a second chance... but I know that's influenced a lot by my own life experiences, too.

Yea, I really had a lot of doubt about her at first, but I’ve grown to like her. 😊

Yea, he’s definitely a tough one... I’m in the camp of really hoping he’s a good guy, but I’m not convinced of it at all.

I mean, anyone who leaves their child alone to fend for themselves tends to logically seem a bit unreliable.

After all the playing around she did, I really like how straightforward Ami is in this one. Though he doesn't quite seem to get it, Ami flat-out tells him that, if he's interested in a relationship with another person on equal terms, and not someone he deifies or someone that's dependent on him, she's down for it. That's how I see it, anyway. "I won't cling to you like Taiga, and I won't be your shining sun, like Minori."
