Why would this douchebag go to the trouble of recruiting Thors, only to have some mercenaries kill him?!

Rogue Agent

Oh dear. Well, I suppose we know who the dipshits are so far.

Wow, this is also my first time seeing this series, and I’m blown away at how much real history is represented here! As someone who has some knowledge of the time period, I’m tempted to clarify/explain some of the more interesting aspects...but I’m not sure what would and wouldn’t be spoiling future events, so I’ll keep quiet for now lol. Going episode by episode should be fine though. One small detail I thought was cool though, is how religious beliefs among the Vikings is already being represented. Leif’s use of wine according to Christian customs may seem out of place, but by this time period (year 1000) Vikings have been trading, raiding, and conquering all across Western Europe for 200 years. It’s only natural that these kinds of cultural exchanges happened over time. Of course, many Vikings would still hold on to some of their pagan beliefs as a matter of culture and tradition, as shown when Leif later also mentions Odin granting favorable winds for Thors’ journey. As well as the scene at the end with the men taking part in the time-honored Viking tradition of killing Christians in as many “fun” ways as possible. Overall, there’s a ton of interesting historical elements already, and I’m looking forward to seeing more!

The opening massacre was an actual massacre. The vikings bathed once a week, saturday. The british bathed a few times a year in general. The british used that weakness and went hard.

It was made clear that Thors deserted. If he wanted to follow the law, Thors might well come out alive. If he killed Thors man to man, then he would break the law and have to face the consequences(there were fairly strict and important laws in viking society). So in this way he can uphold the jomviking way of not letting deserters survive, while not getting caught up in a legal battle or legal trouble.

A lot of it would be spoiling future events, so I'd keep quiet. And yes, the author Makoto Yukimura really did/does his research when writing this series. I especially love how basically all the characters are based either on historical figures or mythological figures from Norse stories. You and Curtis, and anyone else watching for the first time, are in for a real treat.

Yeah, this series doesn't shy away from the brutality of the time period.

My understanding is Floki is worried Thors will outshine him and take his position it never said the King wanted him dead Floki is the one after Thors

Floki's motivations are something explored a very long time from now. Well after the point in the story they've adapted so far.

The event that sparks the war is referred to by Historians as the St. Brice's Day Massacre. The Vikings had been living in England for the better part of two centuries. Their domain stretched as far north as York and depending on the era as far south as London. At various times they were even ruled by the English. At some point though King Ethelred the Unready (one of the most unflattering names in the history of Kings, right up there with Charles the Fat, Charles the Bald, Louis the Stammerer and John Lackland) got it into his head that the Vikings would revolt, kill him and take his land. He then ordered a massacre along the frontier of the Danelaw (the territory where the Vikings lived) in which Gunhilde sister of Sweyn Forkbeard the King of Denmark was killed along with her husband. Ethelred was not ready for the consequences of his actions, hence the nickname.

All I can say for sure is that you and I use the same subtitle settings on Amazon prime. Gotta have that black faded background behind the white text for those moments when the screen goes completely white.

i love it.
