This is truly a lot of fun, learning the early days of these characters!... Poor Goku's tail wasn't around long.

I love how light hearted and fun dragon ball is

Yes this is where Toriyama decides to veer off of his usual writing when it comes to his manga. Previously he did a lot of Gag manga, Dr. Slump is actually what made him a big Mangaka (Manga artist/author) in the first place. I guess here he decided he wanted to do some more battle manga oriented stuff.

It's just so exciting to watch your reactions to Goku's early adventures. I already can't wait for the next one!

Unfortunately Pilaf, we can't accept your insurance claim. While it is true we do cover giant apes that destroy your castle, we don't accept if you played in any part of the destruction. And as we can see here in this video evidence not only did you fire bullets but you also fired a missile that directly lead to damage of the property. Best regards, Jake from SF

Just think. Mai will end up getting turned into a kid and falling for another ape boy.

The Irony of Oolong calling Goku an alien is funny since that’s what Goku’s retconned into being

Yes it’s not his gag manga style, but it doesn’t become a battle manga until dbz. Toriyama originally wrote dragon ball as an adventure story and a version of Journey to the west. That’s why Goku is the monkey king in the original, not a Sayian, and also why there are demons and more mystical elements. Dragon Ball got so popular that people wanted it to continue even after Toriyama had reached the end of what he had originally planned, so he retconned the origins of Goku and several other characters in order to turn the series into a battle manga about aliens
