The creator of Overlord is a big D&D fan, the magic systems in Overlord are based around D&D (in terms of spells having levels and limited use of abilities each day). Most of the spells they use are variations of D&D spells as well (for example mass hold person is a D&D spell, vs the mass hold species Shaltear used). The similarities also extends to races, Shaltear is a vampire, and uses charm magic, similar to how Silas Briarwood in Vox machina was also a vampire and used charm a lot, given that it's a inherent trait of their species. It also shows just how OP Ainz is as in D&D the highest tier of magic normally available to players is level 9 magic, and Ainz can use level 11 magic.

NGL i laughed when Ainz created that fortress for literally only Aura and the Zenburu to sleep. Since he, Shaltear, and most of his servants are undead and don't need sleep. A wonderful ability to have if you go out camping like you said lad 😆😆

Yes, there are higher tier spells than level 9, I just meant what is normally available to players. I think there were 12th level spells that could kill a god at some point.

Create Fortress! The only ability you'd need in the real world. And just imagine casting that skill in a town already populated by buildings, could simultaneously act as a nuke.

Fun fact: The art in the end credits, is made by So-Bin, who did the art in the Light Novel. They did some phenomenal pieces of art for this series.

The 12th level spell you are thinking of is Karsus Avatar. It allows you to steal the domains of a god and therefore its powers. It was used exactly once and made the god of magic cut off access to all spells above 9th level... Because it killed the previous god of magic and damaged magic itself. It also killed off a whole society, the society of the guy who invented and used the spell.

I didnt know that. But that means Ainz may be partially based off Larloch and the Warlocks Crypt.
