Henchman Twenty1

The scene where Bender is staggering past those neon signs is taken from the movie "Charly" (1968) starring Cliff Robertson and based on the book "Flowers for Algernon". It's about a mentally handicapped man who undergoes experimental brain surgery that makes him become progressively smarter until he exceeds the scientists who developed the procedure, but he's still emotionally underdeveloped. After he makes an awkward romantic move on his former teacher and gets spurned he takes off to experience the seedier side of life. There's a scene where Charly is walking past signs for bars and gentleman's clubs and whatnot. He returns a Man. Thank Zod they didn't take that apartment in New Jersey!

Classic episode. Hope you watch all of Futurama. Definitely want to see your reaction to the movie Bender’s big score. (Once you get to it chronologically)

Henchman Twenty1

Ah, see. I don't know it all after all. According to the Futurama wiki that I just checked it was an homage to the 1945 film "The Lost Weekend", so maybe that scene in "Charly" was an homage as well?
