When you think about it, Gardar was a lot like the old Thorfinn. Back in season 1 Thorfinn spoke with one girl who was enslaved. And he told her if he ever found himself in her kind of position, he who kill the person who dare call himself his master. Then he'd leave. And he'd kill anyone that would come after him.

History fact! As a warrior of Miklagard, Snake wonders how Thorfinn is able to keep up with him. Miklagard is the Viking name for Constantinople, aka the capital of the Byzantine Empire/Eastern Rome. Judging by his curved sword and insane combat skill, Snake may have been a member of the Varangian Guard. These guys were not to be fucked with! They were made up of the greatest warriors of the Vikings and the Rus, and were the Byzantine Emperor's personal bodyguards. To put Snake's farm defense job into perspective, this would be like giving a Delta Force veteran a job as a local mall cop.
