Welcome to the campfire. Have a seat on your favorite log if you didn't bring your own compact camp chair. It's so exciting to finally have a name for this thing, isn't it? Today we'll be talking about art style, specifically how I "found" mine, being present, an unexpected self care habit, and friendships/relationships that "burn like a piece of paper".

I'm so glad you're here. As always I would love to hear your thoughts, questions and opinions. Here's to a wonderful December!

That moment when you talked about the rejection of your "femininity" and even trying to be more "masculine" at some point, felt so relatable to me ... I also consider myself as a non-binary person and it took me a while to understand that and it so nice and comforting to hear that other people had the same experiences ! Really related to the segment about rejecting aspects of gender and being able to move onto doing things for yourself despite the general social perception 💜 As always, it feels like sitting down to listen to a friend. Yes Tina!! I'm happy that we share that experience. Nothing is truly gendered (unfortunately society has some catching up to do with this mentality) but so long as we know that in our hearts, that's what is important.

Thank you for this very open conversation, Jamie. :) I grew up with my mom saying "Your grandpa always said to make sure your hands look nice. People judge you by your hands". He would go take himself to get manicures frequently, and I've done the same. It's self care, and also helps me keep from biting my nails. My nail tech teases me because my nail colors are either black or OPI bubble bath. It's such a small wonderful thing you can do for yourself. :)

It's so interesting that so many of us have this shared experience. I want to curl up when I hear words like "queen, mom, girl, sister" etc. but I am completely fine with "king, dad" etc. and yet I am fine with all pronouns. It is definitely a rejection of hyper-femininity--something that maybe we have experienced our whole lives and want to move as far away as possible from. Everyone is so different, but it's nice to hear that we can relate to each other.

I have also heard this--hands are always exposed. It's how we interact with people and get things done. Hands are important. There is an ASMR creator on youtube named itsblitzzz who talks a lot about this and always has such beautiful looking hands! It's a very important form of self care. Sounds like your favorite nail colors are minimalist and go good with everything!

What a wonder analogy over relationships! This is definitely something I’m working on and reflecting about for the past couple of weeks. I connect with your boldness from last month’s podcast and/or newsletter about it. Maybe it stems from how we strive to overcome our fears and lack of experiences we’ve never had the chance to look upon. ah i'm so glad what i said resonated with you! it's definitely something i haven't stopped thinking about since my therapist taught it to me. I painted my nails this month too! living at home right now, it's felt challenging to do the "feminine" things I like because my parents still see me as their daughter even after coming out as non-binary (and even after having top surgery! lol). but i can't control how they perceive me, i can only control how i care for myself!

Went and got hot cocoa just for this! Also needed to hear the thing about taking relationships slowly. I tend to be all-or-nothing. Either I am very withdrawn or rush things very quickly.
