if you guys are interested, the boyz have put out some really in depth (15-40 min) practice videos for their rtk stages where they go into depth about how they actually went about learning the choreography before the performance. i found them really interesting so i would really recommend you watch them (whether that be reacting or on your own time)!

Military service in Korea is a minimum of 2 years when you reach the age of 28-30 but when Jinho comes back someone else may have to go, which is why when members start going to the military it is unknown when the group will come back together again after

I would highly recommend the dance practices for The Boyz. They give a really good look behind the scenes of how they choreographed and practiced for all their performances.

Also, I'm glad you understand the military thing to a certain extent, I've seen a few people saying Pentagon were "laying it on thick" and being "over dramatic" which is just not true :l Pentagon has been through many hardships, years of training together, a survival show together, their member E-Dawn (now a soloist known as Dawn, he was one of the main producers of the group along side Hui their leader) left (was removed from) the group and company due to a dating "scandal", their Chinese member Yanan was injured and had to take a hiatus and his status in the group was unknown at the time of this show, he had posted on his personal social media that he was healed and ready to come back to the group but Cube had not been giving him any information and sometimes not even responding to him. So they were already dealing with members missing and now the dependable oldest member is going off for two years...it's heart breaking :c two whole years they have to go without him, two whole years Jinho has to go without doing what he loves most, performing. Cube (their ent company) is also trash and does a terrible job managing groups, now that the oldest is in the military, their leader has recently announced his enlistment recently as well so they'll be without the oldest and their leader for 2 years. It's hard to keep fans when members are missing for such long periods of time and since the members will be enlisting from now on it will be a while before they are together as a whole group so who knows what Cube will do with them. It's a tough situation and that's why it was so emotional for them.

This episode never fails to make me cry gdi.... This really was a roller coaster of emotions🤧 As always I’ll give my thoughts on all the performances. Pentagon(r1)-First, I just wanna say I really appreciate the show putting in Hui’s production process, and I wish they’d show that for all the groups, unless Pentagon is the only one that self produces their arrangements, because it’s just really cool to see and I think adds a bit of charm to their performance. There’s something Pentagon has that separates them from the other groups and it’s that they have this boisterous energy that only they are capable of pulling off. And experience is part of it, they know how to give an exciting performance and work the audience. That’s honestly hard to beat, but what they lacked was something The Boyz made up for in their performance: them tricks. The Boyz-Congratulations to The Boyz for winning first place two times in a row because they ABSOLUTELY killed it. They have proven themselves once again why they are so freakishly incredible. Their performance was hit after hit after hit. Like, I had no idea if I was breathing for the whole 4-5 min lol. In my personal opinion, TBZ had the best all-rounder performance. The other groups may have had specific areas where they excelled at, but TBZ overall just sweeps everything. The execution, the storyline, the choreo, the stunts, the vocals, the arrangement, the use of the stage, the props, it was all so cohesive. We are starting to understand what TBZ is all about just from their two performances so far and it’s their insane creativity. From the very first opening, the whole royal guard scene with the hand rubbing and snaps and clock ticking, the implementation of those sounds were inspired by the musical number Cell Block Tango from Chicago the musical (you can watch it to get an idea of what I’m talking about). It’s such a small detail but it quickly set the tone for the whole performance. Gotta give credit to Galaxy brain Kevin for coming up with that. Also, what a smart song choice. Because of that, they were able to come up with such a genius concept, and it’s so cool how the lyrics fit so well too. One thing I wish the translators would do is translate those lyrics on the side because—and this applies to all the groups—it really adds to the performance. The lyrics are literally like “I’ll appear like the wind, disappear like smoke, deceiving your eyes” and Sunwoo’s rap goes “No way, get your hands off the crown, because you’re not the owner, give it up quickly.” Also at the end they were repeating “I’ll steal you, I’ll steal you away, steal you” as they were approaching the crown and the last lines were “disappear, disappear disappear disappear” and then the crown freakin disappears along with them. Like??? Genius. I’m glad Aasif clocked how they were using the stage because they were the only group who truly fully used that stage to their advantage. When they used the entire length of the stage at the end as if it was a road to the crown, the “Road to Kingdom.” The symbolism jumped out. And the fact that they had no backup dancers? Every single stunt, trick, props were done by them. We gotta give madddd props to them for that because like Shabir said, “difficult” is an understatement. The level of trust they had to have for each other and the amount of practice they had to do to even pull any of that off, the potential risks, it was a lot. Even during their rehearsal, Sunwoo was having trouble doing that staircase move and they kept failing, but the members kept encouraging him, they trusted each other, and then he pulled it off. What can I say, this was a literal masterpiece. And it’s only the first round lol. So much pressure is being put on them now because they have to find a way to top their own performance to keep that first place. Are they able to do it? Welp, we’ll just have to see next week😉 Pentagon (r2)-oh god and then Pentagon comes and totally flips us over. I respect them so much for doing this performance because from an objective standpoint, this would not pass very well in a competition. It was just not a level of performance that could compete against what the other groups have to bring. They knew how this was gonna look, but they didn’t care about that. This wasn’t a performance for RTK. This wasn’t even a performance for the fans. This was a performance for themselves. Their most important goal was to leave a lasting memory for Jinho, and they’ve achieved that. When Jinho said in the last 5 years they were together that there was never a moment when he was unhappy, that was such a hard hitting quote and a very good message to give to the team, because as you guys probably know, they’ve been through A LOT. They have felt so discouraged on multiple occasions, but their eldest member was never unhappy about them, about their group, about their family. Hearing that from him must’ve given them so much energy and encouragement. The mention of disbandment hit me so hard. We talked about this on discord, it is a sad reality that many male idols face. But I’m glad they made something positive out of it, even though it was bittersweet. Lot of ugly sobbing on my end lol. I hope they take Jinho’s message and use it to come back bigger and better. And there goes the first round with the start of the second. Totally forgot about that queendom bit there but yes, Oh My Girl are from the same company as ONF. Really sad that ONEUS came last, but you’ll see how they will learn from this and give a better performance. So excited for next week. I won’t give spoilers but one of my favorite (might as well be my favorite) performance is in the next episode. Who am I kidding, they’re all so great.

Hui’s confirmed to enlist in December as well I think. I don’t know if my heart can take that 😭😭

EXO is a nice example of a group that needed to change every comeback in the last few years because of the military. Each comeback they have a different number of members, but they are still going as strong as before.
