Ah Sayak and Kyouko. Such good "friends" *wink wink* Why Homura did it, go back to the flower field discussion between her and Madoka. Madoka said she would NEVER give up her family and friends. Never ever. Homura realized what a massive sacrifice Madoka did by becoming a Concept and wanted to undo it so Madoka could be back with her family and friends. Sure Homura wants Madoka too but that statement from Madoka was what gave her new motivation to actually do it. For why she still needs the Incubators we can only speculate. Just like after Madoka's wish, despair just wont go away. When the Witches vanished the despair of humans turned into Wraiths. It has to go somewhere after all. So Wraiths are probably still around and Homura uses the Incubators to collect the despair of them.

Every time I watch Rebellion I remember that Madoka asked Homura to save her from contracting, and even in the anime Madoka ended up contracting. Even if it was a good result and should have been the good ending, to Homura that would still feel like a failure, especially when Madoka told Homura that she would never want to leave without seeing her friends and family ever again. So Homura compromised. She waited for Madokami to try and save her from becoming a Witch, and split off the knowledge of Madokami's existence from the universe. So Madoka still has her god powers in theory (hence her power surging and the golden eyes in the ending) but since she doesn't /know/ that she's a being of a higher plane she's just living out her life as a normal girl, which is exactly what Homura tried to accomplish during the anime. Meanwhile Homura herself has enough power to partially rewrite the universe and ascended to demon, but not enough to fully become a concept like Madoka, hence why she is still there and people can interact with her. And since she is the one holding the knowledge of the concept Madokami, she's able to suppress Madoka's powers when they surge. So while the anime ending might have been the good ending, Rebellion is the ending that Homura had searched for. Or at least, the ending closest to a success for Homura's mission. Also friendly reminder that Homura's wish was to redo her and Madoka's first meeting, "not as someone who is protected by her, but as someone strong enough to protect her." You can't really protect someone when you can't perceive them anymore.

Homura did nothing wrong

I love that we have some cultured people here. Actually understating Homura and that this wasn't a bed end movie. I remember the outcry that happened when this movie first time came out. Glad that people get it now.
