I think another reason that Aqua doesn't want Ruby to be an Idol is because he knows he plans to kill their father (or at least I assume that's the revenge he's after). So if Ruby is famous, then not only will the murder ruin her career, but because she's in the spotlight a lot of hate will be sent her way as well. So Aqua is not only protecting her from Idol culture, but from the backlash of what he's planning to do in the future. edit: read the 1st 10 chapter of the manga and seems like i'm probably wrong. Those chapters start with these random flash forwards to interviews with characters 15 years after the kids are born, and I get the vibe the revenge might not be murder after all? I can see why those were left out of the anime since they're so out of place but very interesting they included those at the start.
