Heya everyone! Before CBT 2 was launched we talked about the possibility of upgrading the game to Unreal Engine 5 when the engine is stable enough. Today we finished laying the foundation for the upgrading in closed beta update 0.8.0.

But before we start, we would like to hold a public poll to make sure you are okay with this. Considering that this will be an irreversible choice impacting every player in the community, I'd like to ensure that we have an adequate sample size before the ship is sailed.

PROS:

Upgrading to Unreal Engine 5 means better graphics overall. Real-time accurate shadow generation, ray-tracing and groom based hair simulation (the tech used on Elizabeth's hair) will take up less resources. Lumen (impacts coloring, shadow and reflection), particle system (impacts the body fluids VFX), alpha layering (impacts translucent materials such as the stockings and hair) improvements will enhance the game visually.

CONS:

Any graphic card that does not support SM5 (Lower than Nvidia Geforce GTX-1070) will NO LONGER BE ABLE TO RUN THE GAME after the upgrading. Addressing optimization and compatibility issues may take a couple of weeks to a month.

If it is well optimized and the new bugs that will come out with the change to UE5 are fixed, the graphic quality will be impressive and will have a good performance. But things have to be done better. Without forcing anything, keeping communication to avoid misunderstandings. So we can be informed and give our opinion. It is true that UE5 will require more resources but they will not be exaggerated. Maybe many players will think about what happened with Elizabeth's hair in UE4, but it is not like that. **For those who have doubts, there is a game called "Carnal Instinct" (Open World & NSFW). They are migrating to UE5. The game looks great and the requirements are still not exaggerated. Steam allows you to install either the UE4 version or the UE5 version.

Upgrade, because the complex game graphics already overwhelm anything below 1050Ti. Even 1050Ti can barely handle it. 1650Ti can be bought cheaply these days over 1070

You can buy used Dell Precision with NVIDIA Quadro T1000 or T2000 for cheap, usually after they come off 3 years or so service warranty at universities, etc. that upgrade for newer models.

A large amount of new work for UE5 has arisen, and I think it will become a factor in delaying the schedule for the game portion.

Let’s not mention the extra work load or the huge scale up in time spent moving it over. FYI this is not a snap they will need a good chunk of time JUST to move it over. That means no new animations characters, creatures etc. not saying others won’t work on them but we won’t see em until the move

In the first place, GPUs of that class already do not provide satisfactory performance, so I don't think it will be a big problem even if support ends.

I would say keep it in UE4 for the same reasons that many people have already brought up. It could seriously delay things and I really don't want to read the complaints that will inevitably come up when performance drops for some hardware. If you're going to use UE5 I'm assuming you'd be looking to add lumen and nanite, which I can't see a use for in the game, at least IMO.

Every project I've seen attempting this switch ran into massive problems with only marginal improvements to show for it. Let alone the significant performance problems that came with the new version even on high-end hardware. I hope you reconsider and instead focus on the basic game and gameplay.

Tbh, the game have poorly performance even when i have 3080ti it still lag at first and the fps is not as i expected, just ensure the game runs smoothly then everything is fine with me.

I haven't been involved for long and I think it's a really great project. I can see that the project has already been running for a few years and therefore I can understand everyone who has said no. I voted yes, but only because I still have a lot to unlock. What I miss most about the game is the interaction with other online players and playing as a male gender. I also don't understand why this is not already in the game as everything it needs is there. If an online player is in a scene, another player could actively join that scene. Or a player standing around could invite another player to a scene. I think something like this is needed in the game so that many players who already have everything don't quit when you make the switch to UE5 (which will take some time I think).

Moving to UE5 is a mistake at this time. VR support, adding all existing content to Gallery mode, and fleshing out the game itself is far more important at this point.

I originally came to this game because it's beta had VR support I'd rather that get focus than going to UE5, besides the game visually is fine as is.

Even upgrading from Unreal 4 to 5 still has challenges. If they release the UE5 version before they have had a chance to do the necessary excess work it will have a few more bugs and issues with just what they have now. Any engine shift, even an upgraded engine running on the same base core, causes issues. I want more options to the game, not necessarily better graphics. The graphics are pretty good as they are.

What is SM5? I’m not opposed to upgrading a graphics card if that’s all it would take ( currently using rx580 and already have texture issues with this game.

I mean sure go ahead and switch AGAIN. After all the constant switching to the newest engine worked so well for Duke Nukem, right. JUST FINISH IT ALREADY. If you switch engines again you will lose my financial support and i doubt i am alone.

I am very in favor of upgrading the engine. I know that there may be some image quality issues when I first change the engine, and I hope to ultimately achieve better image quality than before. After seeing a friend's screenshot of last year, I really envy the image quality that I seem to want from the past. And I am a 4070 graphics card, so theoretically, this game can play RTX and run smoothly with high graphics quality. I look forward to your optimization.
