FULL LENGTH REACTION

Time for the mighty morphin power darleks🤣🤣🤣

Jacob King

I always liked the colourful Daleks. It feels a little bit like a toy commercial but every other time we see the Daleks they are in decline; it’s fitting that at their triumphant rebirth they would be in full regalia.

Time for new Dalek Paintwork! Some people hated the new designs from back in the day, but I think they are nice revamped design thats more updated look. Anytime they do a redesign of enemies and such they're always a welcome change.

TomServo

Not a huge fan of this episode, it's ok. The next two are great though.

Rayna Storie

Actually there was two cracks in the first episode The one we saw with Amy and a second one that was easy to miss on the tardis when the doctor turned off the monitor

Alice Devilman

Can confirm, hindsight is greater than 20/20 from here on out.

The original dalek concept was a riff off the Nazi master race mentality, so this story pitting them in the same place kinda put that on the nose, didn't it! But, if it's any consolation, the Supreme Dalek in a lot of early classic Who was typically black, rather than the then-usual grey or light blue color. (Red daleks also existed from time to time, usually as officers I suppose. Only in New Who have they been so consistently monochrome.) And yeah, the seasonal "mystery box" is making its presence known. I hope you enjoy the crack-in-the-wall arc.

The Daleks don't have names in general. The reason you seem to think so is the last time we saw them it wasn't normal Daleks, it was The Cult of Skaro, which where tasked with thinking like the enemy and therefor dared have names.

Carl Wilson

"progenitor" - "a person or thing from which a person, animal, or plant is descended or originates; an ancestor or parent."

Martin

I enjoyed this episode it's fun, they needed to, well, literally restore the Daleks for the new Doctor and I think this does that, think some people are put off by the slightly goofy planes in space bit and the different coloured daleks but I think as a whole this episode does what it needed to do so not too fussed about the other points, and I think it was good for Matt to get an early episode with them to get into the spirit of being the Doctor! Winston Churchill is seen as a great leader because of WW2 but as a person he wasn't great... but his service during the war glosses over that. The line about making a deal with satan is taken from a real quote of his - ''"If Hitler invaded hell, I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons," . When the Daleks were originally created they were actually based on the Nazi's (the long eye stalk that resembles the salute and extermination), so them fighting against them here was quite something!

I rather like the Paradigm Dalek design; They needed to get bigger to remain imposing, especially with how tall Matt and Karen are, but I think they were not well served by the set - the white Command Dalek spends most of its time on screen with the top of its dome almost brushing the air vent sticking out of the ceiling. They really should have been in a larger space, ideally one big enough to allow for crane or drone shots to show the Daleks and the Doctor from a high angle. I also like the episode itself - this might be my favorite Gatiss penned one. The whole premise is fun, and I really enjoy the defusing Bracewell scene. Also, spacefaring Spitfires! Best episode of the season so far. And I think Matt really nails the emotions of the Doctor towards the Daleks

Earthen

I think this is my least favorite story of the Matt Smith run. Which means it only gets better from here.... and boy does it get good starting as soon as the next one :)

Robert Collard

Compared to the other stories involving the Daleks during Smith’s run you can completely tell this one was made just so they could still have the contract with the Terry Nation (creator of the Daleks) estate be in effect so they don’t lose the rights of using the Daleks on the show.

A thought occurred to me last night as I drifted off to sleep – when the Daleks threatened the Doctor to call off the attack or they'd detonate the Bracewell bomb, the Doctor knew they were going to trigger the bomb anyway, so why did he call off the attack? Maybe it was to give the Daleks the chance to do the right thing, even though he knows they won't. But when the space spitfires were destroying the Dalek's broadcast dish the Doctor needed to disrupt the Dalek shields for them to do so, but he said he could only do that for a short time. So maybe he called off the attack because it hadn't succeeded and he wasn't able to keep their shields disrupted any longer, and he didn't want Dannyboy to get pulled along in the Dalek's time jump like Aeryn Sun's Prowler got pulled along by Moya's Starburst in the first episode of Farscape. Actually, knowing the Doctor, probably a bit of both reasons.

Love this season. Next episode, two-parter.

Hi, no spoilers for future episodes please, both for Angela’s sake and for newbies watching alongside her 🙂

X Gropo

I showed my husband the Daleks and said "what does this make you think of?" He immediately started singing the Power Rangers theme 😂

Nicholas Sulikowski

In retrospect, series 5 might have the highest number of solid episodes in NuWho. Such that even this one, which was considered just okay upon release, is pretty damn good. Very little fat this series.

Billevity

The multicolored Daleks were extremely controversial when they premiered, but I have and will continue to absolutely love it. It's just new enough to feel fresh for a modern take (I mean hell, it's not like Daleks of varying colors didn't exist in Classic), while still maintaining the core concept. Plus I am just in LOVE with the score that Murray Gold wrote for the scene when they first appear.

Rubin Bryant

The Daleks were really changed because Karen is so tall, she towers over the Time War design.
