It's kind of a niche movie but one war film that changed me was 1985's "come and see". I genuinely believe that every person alive needs to watch that film once.

There is an interveiw documentry called "we stand alone together we band of brothers" that has all the Easy Company surviors's interviews on youtube if your interested in doing a reaction to it that kinda stars Bill & Babe leading you thru where they where in Bastone & the reunion they do ever so often..🫶

"But I served in a company of heroes" gets me EVERY time. Seriously instant water works. This is such an emotional show, Im so glad you watched it and enjoyed it gal. Its really something special. Enjoy your well earned vacation gal!

I find it interesting that I never heard of this movie until maybe a year or two ago, but now it's popping up in all sorts of places. I have it on my watchlist now in any case!

The Pacific is great, but not as cohesive as this series since it tries to tie together 2 or 3 different books written by guys in the Pacific theater. Rami Malek in particular gives an outstanding performance, imo. I'd suggest watching the documentary related to Band of Brothers, even if you don't post a reaction to it. It's really great.

The finale is just a whipsaw of emotions. I don't think I've ever watched that last bit with dry eyes. One thing from the book: Winters noted that many of the Easy veterans went into construction or education. It was like, having seen so much destruction, they wanted to spend the rest of their lives building the world. You're right in what you said at the beginning. The last of Easy veterans passed away in 2022. That entire generation is almost gone now. I'm so so glad they made this series when they did, when a lot of them were still alive and could talk about what they'd seen. One of the reasons the series is so good is that the actors were able to meet with the veterans and get first hand accounts of what they saw, did and felt. It's why it feels so real. Spiers was still alive when the series was shown. The rumors about him killing POWs were still around. His son asked him if was nervous about going to the series premiere in France. Spiers apparently said, "I'm 80 ... what are they going to do to me?" Thanks for letting us go on this journey with you and see see it through new eyes.

The Pacific and Generation Kill would be fantastic follow up series!

The Pacific is very good, but it's a rough watch. The show doesn't pull any punches when it comes to depicting the atrocities committed by the Japanese army, and the resulting dehumanising of them by the American Marines. It's less a show about soldiers and more about the unrelenting hell of war. And they do use that pejorative term for Japanese people a lot. The episode on Okinawa is one of the most brutal hours of television I've ever watched. As for Band of Brothers, something I really love about this episode is how relatively humble so many of their post-war lives were - mailman, cab driver, construction worker. These men who did such incredible things then lived quiet, unassuming lives and probably mostly shared that view that Winters recalled Mike Ranney having - that the other men were heroes, and they were just along for the ride. The bit about Luz always brings tears to my eyes. I don't think there are sixteen hundred people who even know I exist, let alone who would come to my funeral. What an amazing guy he must have been.

One of the standout moments of this episode to me, is the scene of the German officer addressing his men just after their surrender.

The Pacific will definitely be rough watch for her, given the period's language slurs used. Knowing that my grandfathers were in some of the battles depicted (Navy and Marines) really hit home for me when I watched it. I also grew up on a US military base in a Pacific atoll that was a major island hopping battle site, so I was very familiar with the history and the stories of Japanese brutality during the war.

My grandfather faught in the war and made it through without injury. Shortly after getting home he was in a car accident and ended up seriously injured, making it nearly impossible for him to walk and requiring a cane for the rest of his life. I was only three years old when he died, and my only memories of him are of him sitting in his chair and his amazing collection of brass topped canes. I wish I had been able to get to know him before he passed. On the other side of my family, my Opa (grandfather) was a child when the war started and his family, who were dutch jews, fled to New York. However, a lot of his extended family were not able to. Following the war, they were only able to find one of his cousins. Eight other cousins and their families were never found, and we have no idea what happened to them.

I'm sure someone else must have pointed it out, but it wasn't Spiers who confronted the bakery owner - it was Webster.

Yeah it's a strange choice to cut it out, but maybe Angela didn't grasp the gravitas of the scene and so there wasn't much of a reaction. She questioned whether it was actually a German general. Just to clarify, this isn't a slight on Angela, just my thoughts on why the scene didn't make the edit.
