I love that they did this episode. I don't necessarily love the episode itself, but I'm really glad they just went full-on into Aeryn processing her grief. She spends her time sitting in it, and then at the end she pulls herself together and gets back to work. As she told her mother, she knew in her heart it wasn't true, but she wanted to hope. Crichton taught her to hope. @1:25 : It's hurtful but you love it - but it only hurts because you love it. @3:20 : Yet again, predicting the episode in the opener. @36:20 : That's a great tissue box cover. @55:10 : When listing the parallels between Farscape and James Gunn's work, don't forget all the eyeball stuff! It's my least favorite part of both. (Hope your post-surgery recovery has continued to go well) Regarding Stark and Aeryn, Stark's desire for her wasn't the same as Crais's - he doesn't seem to have romantic interest in her, but rather he kinda wanted to lock her in a room somewhere to keep her "safe" - a desire no less unwanted or unreciprocated. He had appointed himself her protector and champion, despite her neither needing nor asking him to - I think it was mostly transference; He failed to save Zahn, Zahn died to bring back Aeryn, so he's trying to protect Aeryn in an attempt to redeem his failure and save Zahn by proxy. Crais' desire for Aeryn has been no secret for a while, but I think it's worth noting that he knows it's unreciprocated and doesn't try to push himself on her the way Stark does in his overbearing fashion. When she climbed onto his lap in the hallway, he didn't respond I think not just because she was telling him how she'd be pretending he was someone else, but because he knew it was an act of grief, and that's not what he wants. A while back there was a situation where Aeryn was making a deal with him and told him "You can take what you want, I won't stop you" and he made no attempt to take her up on that, because he wants her to want him, and her offer isn't even close to the same thing. Now, this is just me thinking in text with no authoritative support, but the way I figure it with Stark's mask is, he wears the mask to contain his powers, but he's seeking Zahn so he left his mask behind because he wants to unleash his powers to try and find her. When Aeryn is getting ready to leave at the end, what she says about what she was bred to be, I don't think that's so much her reembracing the Peacekeeper lifestyle, so much as certain aspects of that - strength, resilience, precision, etc - are the core structure of who she is, the skeleton upon which the rest of her personality hangs. And I love Aeryn's dress / outfit in this episode. She obviously doesn't look her best; her skin is pale and sallow, her eyes are red, she's quite obviously going through it, but Claudia still makes it look good.
