I love the show for this, for taking its time, for its attention to details (for example, the leaf that Frieren removed from her head in episode 1, or when they cross the river by walking on a log in episode 2, or the leafs in the fountain and the cat in this episode), all those small things that can so often be ignored in other shows :) . I'm glad you found a streaming service that provides subtitles for everything and that you enjoy the show so far, I can't wait to watch the rest with you :) .

The music is SOOO GOOD, but I especially love the battle music during the duel with Qual! Yes, Frieren is showing more affection and emotion but it's subtle. You are super attentive to details, so you will soon see most of the spells she collects reflects her emotional growth.

Arronax06

Ah yes! The music is great too, and not only the music itself, but the sound design in general is also great: for example when they walk in the forest, the sound of each step subtly behind the dialogue, I find the attention to details is great in this show :)

The magic world-building in this show is some of my favourite ever. This idea that Zoltraak was so terrifying and powerful 80 years ago, but humanity studied it, incorporated it, countered it. And now it's just the standard for magic users. It's just really cool, well-thought-out, and feels real to technological advancements. And then just the relationship between Fern and Frieren in this episode is so cute. That little birthday scene. Argh, I love it so much.

I love how Frieren is like, "Oh, you don't like reading history? Alright, bet. Tomorrow you're gonna meet history up close and in person." 😅

R

I love that the battle song is literally called "Zoltraak." They knew what they were doing with that one. 🤘

in my opinion, Frieren is the best kind of feelgood because it doesn't do sadness for sadness' sake nor does it just do feelgood for the sake of feelgood. It's about healing, processing, moving on and caring about the things around you. Frieren is a masterclass in empathy and in portraying how life can be so beautiful even though sadness exists. Shows like Frieren and Violet Evergarden make me feel much, much better after watching than any amount of 100% fluff media ever could. They always make me feel much happier to be alive, because I recognize myself in what happens to the characters and the lessons learned are something I've carried with me. Because of media like Frieren and Violet Evergarden, I've gotten a lot better at dealing with loss and hardship.

Okay, but this theme song is a bop, I love it I'm really starting to fall in love with the world

I really wish Patreon had a way to mark part of a comment as a spoiler, as I've noticed details on this rewatch that I want to remark about, but even mentioning them without the context of why they matter could be considered a spoiler. Ah well, is what it is.

You could do an episode of this every day and it wouldn't be fast enough. Such a great and absolutely beautiful show.

I think the music really help bring out your feeling about the anime especially since Eric Call was the American composer who did Frieren's and Violet Evergarden's music.

Lazzy

I very sincerely hope that you do. It's my favorite anime of all time and I genuinely think you would love it to bits.

Nathaniel Castle

One of the things I love about this show is the quiet moments, it makes the magic more magical when it’s not all the time

R

It's by Yoasobi!

See, another super sweet episode =) I'll take a nice peaceful end with an old friend by my bedside after a long well lived life over any of the deaths in Attack on Titan =)

EgregiousGrievous

Buy several boxes of tissues, there are two OVAs and a movie to complete the Violet Evergarden TV series that are must watch too. Also you should watch "Silent Voice" and "Your Name" anime movies, they are so good, you wont be disappointing.

Kyle Taggart

"two people I've liked have died" whoops!

I don't even remember these details, and I reacted to it, and watched other reactions. But yes, if the reactor hasn't commented on it, and it can be linked to something in the future, zip it. Although I think this is safe, bc even I, someone who's watched it multiple times has no clue what this is referring to lol

PG Modehouse

I'm glad those poor adventurers who moonlight as sweets/dessert connoisseurs at the hookah bar didn't hear that unwarranted slander through the monitor. What a lovely place they recommended! 😭😭😭😭

Arronax06

Well, yeah, that's kind of my point :) , I was talking about insignificant details that are only there to make the world real, not for any plot point or not even something funny :D . Those details are rarely seen in other animes :) . I don't even think those details are meant to be actively noticed, they're only there to act on a subconscious level (at least, that's how I see it :) ) . edit: Oh, were you saying that because the first sentence of the first reply was "I really wish Patreon had a way to mark part of a comment as a spoiler" :D ? Ok I think I get what happened here, don't worry, there's no spoilers in there :)

I was trying to describe this show to a friend, and I likened it to Delicious in Dungeon but more....pastel? I can use pastel as a descriptor of a mood, right? :) It's a nice change of pace from what I usually watch. I needed this, tbh.
